Automated Storage and Retrieval System(ASRS)

It consists of a variety of computer-controlled systems for automatically placing and retrieving loads from defined storage locations

Page 3: Automated storage and retrieval system

Why we choose ASRS ???• Orders spending too much time in the factory,

causing customer deliveries to the late• Much time spend for searching• Lost or damaged products and inaccurate records•Waste much space•Workers are exposed to dangers If the answer to all of these questions is “YES” for a

given material handling system, then the system can be considered Automated Storage and Retrieval system(ASRS).

movementUsed to move items in and out of the

inventory

3. Storage ModulesUnit load containers is used to hold an inventory

items such as pallets, steel wire baskets, containers etcThe modules are generally made to a standard base

size capable of being stored in the structure and moved by S/R Machines

4. Pickup and Deposit (P/D) Stationsloads transferred to in and out of the AS/RS stationslocated at the end of aislesNumber of P/D Stations depends upon the orgin

point from incoming and outgoing loads

5. External handling system

bring load to AS/RS and takes load away

Eg- Pallet truck etc

Applications•Unit load storage and handling system –

Warehousing for finished goods/Products•Order Picking – Used to store and retrieve

materials in less than full unit load quantities such as man-on-board or mini-load applications•Work-in-process – Support just-in-time

production activities, buffer storage, and as integral part of assembly systems

Conclusion

AS/RS is a great system which was developed to improve the storage systems used in industries to handle, store and retrieve materials with precisions, accuracy and speed under defined degree of automation.
