Fact VS. Opinion

• When you are informing of something– A giraffe can clean its ears with its 21-

inch long tongue

• When you are persuading someone to your idea– 52% of people in America like chocolate

ice cream better than vanilla, so you should like chocolate ice cream too

When To Use Facts…

• When entertaining– I think the time the Roadrunner made

Wiley Coyote fall of the cliff was the best episode ever.

• When persuading– I think cartoons are more fun to watch

than the news because cartoons do goofy things, while the news just tells facts.

When To Use Opinion…

Choose the author’s purpose for each passage (make sure you point out if there are facts or opinions in the passages too!!!)
