Market Update
More businesses are waking up to the fact that
while creating and storing data is valuable, the real
value only comes when that information is put to
good use. The demand for business intelligence
and data analytics professionals who are able to
create actionable, profit-driven decisions from that
information continues to increase.
While business intelligence and data analytics roles
are in demand as specialised jobs, job seekers
from all industries should note that businesses are
becoming increasingly aware of the need for these
skills to be present in every IT worker no matter
their role. As a result, soft skills are in high demand
for business intelligence and data analytics workers
to both find and communicate deeper insights to a
wider range of stakeholders.
Currently, the most recent sweep of demand has
businesses searching for employees proficient in:
• Data science
• Data engineering
• NoSQL
• Data-as-a-service
• Traditional BI reporting
• Business Objects/OBIEE.
An emerging trend is organisations building new
data platforms of their own, even while continuing
to search for those with the skills mentioned above.
The sheer amount of information being tracked from
a wide number of sources is also feeding into the
demand for workers with hardware knowledge and
a general understanding of macro information trends
such as connected devices, artificial intelligence,
automation and robotics.
Given this demand, salaries are expected to increase
between 5-10% over the next year. Employers hoping
to find this talent should expedite the recruitment
process in order to secure these highly sought after
skills. For job seekers, continuing to upskill and
becoming familiar with new technology stacks will be
crucial in such a fast-paced environment.
