Overtaking Clean Bandit’s Rockabye ft. Sean Paul & Anne-Marie which now sits at #2, Starboy has stuck it out and finally taken the crown. Vying for #1 since the very first issue of the Australian Singles Report and published Artist Top 50, Starboy’s peak at #1 isn’t as clear cut as previous chart toppers. The biggest push for Starboy has always come from Spotify. Now on its eighth week topping the streaming service’s Australian chart, the rest of the music platforms have finally followed suit. Starboy holds its peak at #2 on the iTunes chart as well as the Hot 100. With no shared #1 across either platforms, it’s been given a rare opportunity to rise. Last week’s #1, Rockabye, is still #1 on the iTunes chart and #2 on Spotify, but has dropped to #5 on the Hot 100. It’s still unclear whether there will be one definitive ‘summer anthem’ that makes itself known over the Christmas break. With the year coming to a close, there are very few singles left that haven’t already been serviced to radio. One of the exceptions is Krewella’s Team which takes this weeks #1 Single To Radio. The dance music duo’s latest hit is a move in the direction of commercial EDM, something that has historically been a strong point for the group. The single comes out ahead of their scheduled performance at Sydney’s Marquee nightclub for New Years Eve 2016. Hitimpulses’s rendition of O.T Genasis’ viral hit I’m In Love With The Coco will hit commercial too. The track has already seen huge success online, earning over 5 million views on YouTube and a mammoth 14 million streams on Spotify. Added to the Ash London Live show, Nova Network and Hit Regional Network, it was one of the only tracks to elicit a big response from radio this week. The other new collaboration, Steve Aoki & Louis Tomlinson’s (of One Direction) Just Hold On, was the only track to see similar success. With similar additions across the board, the glaring omission that set the two apart was the track missing out on a Nova Network addition. starboy The Weeknd ft. Making an opportune move to #1 this week is Neiked’s Sexual. The debut single from the Swedish mystery collective takes the top spot after being in the chart for nine weeks, most of which were spent hovering in the top five. Its biggest supporters are the Hit and Nova networks, both of which have it as their second most played track.

Starley’s Call On Me has finally replicated its overseas success in Australia. At #14 from #40, it’s the #1 Hot 100 Heatseeker for the week. Sofi Tukker takes #2 with Drinkee as the track moves from an alternative mainstay to commercial rising star, taking #53 from #78.

Dillon Francis’ Anywhere tops the Hot 100 Breakers this week. Unable to crack Australian radio thus far, it’s performing exceptionally well overseas, already garnering 13.5 million streams since release.

Triple j have gotten right behind Golden Features’ new single Wolfie ft. Julia Stone, pushing it to #1. They’ve also thrown plenty of spins behind M-Phases & Alison Wonderland’s Messiah, currently at #2 and A.B. Original’s latest single to click, I C U at #5. Triple M have moved back to playing Rag ‘N’ Bone Man’s Human the most while Bernard Fanning drops to #3 with Reckless.

Hit’s support of The Weeknd’s Starboy remains strong for another week while also making room to put Peking Duk’s Stranger in the Top 5 most played. They’re the only network to get behind the track to this extent. Clean Bandit’s Rockabye ft. Sean Paul & Anne-Marie overtakes Neiked’s Sexual at #1 on the Nova Spins chart while Maroon 5 end Hailee Steinfeld’s Starving’s four week run at #1 on the KIIS network with Don’t Wanna Know ft. Kendrick Lamar.

Chart toppers Major Lazer have teamed up with Dutch duo Showtek for Believer. The track has already reached #13 on the Billboard Dance Chart and the top 10 in the Netherlands. Believer has already surpassed 20 million streams on Spotify, plus 20 million views of the lyric video as well as reaching the top 100 on the worldwide Shazam chart. Between them, Major Lazer and Showtek have over 33 million monthly listeners on Spotify and are no strangers to the ARIA charts. Major Lazer hit #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart in 2015 with their worldwide smash Lean On and Showtek reached #5 in 2014 with their David Guetta collaboration Bad.

TRENDING & PREDICTIVE CHARTs

In this month’s TMN Data Dive, we dissect the recent commercial success of Andy Grammer’s Fresh Eyes, the latest single from the American hit singer-songwriter.

Upon initial service to Australian commercial radio, the track had already amassed 65 million Spotify streams, three and a half million of which were in Australia, while also being the #30 most streamed song in the world. Arguably a hit from the onset, Fresh Eyes still had plenty of room to grow.

Initial indicators of traction slowly but surely cropped up. In this instance, it was Brisbane that proved to be the city that started the chain reaction. Shazam figures on Fresh Eyes show spikes over above 500 and 600 Shazams respectively on November 6th and 13th following the tracks inclusion in the Nova Network’s New Music Show powered by Shazam. After the shows, Nova Brisbane added the track across the board on November 21.

Cross pollination from the various official Spotify playlists that the track was added to spurred the big drive for

success in Brisbane, with various cafes and stores contributing a large portion of that traffic. Those playlists aren’t anything to be sniffed at either, with his largest feature on a list being Today’s Top Hits, an official Spotify playlist with 2.44 million listeners.

Nova Brisbane had broken Fresh Eyes. By November 28, the remainder of the Nova Network jumped on the track, adding it across the board. Fresh Eyes was now circulating across the entire country’s airwaves. The rest of commercial followed suit that week with across the board additions from Hit 104.1 2Day FM, Hit 92.9 and both KIIS 106.5 and KIIS 101.1. The bulk of the remaining commercial stations added the track to their respective weekends/arvo’s playlists, including the entirety of the Hit Regional Network. This landed Andy Grammer a #2 on the TMN Most Added To Radio chart of that particular week.

Three weeks after the track’s explosion at commercial radio, this is where Fresh Eyes currently stands. Following a debut at #80, it now sits at #18 on the TMN Hot 100. It’s now eclipsed Grammer’s

previous best with Back Home which peaked at #22 in July of 2014,. It holds a strong #23 on the Australian Spotify chart as well as #37 on the iTunes chart, ultimately ranking him at #14 on the TMN Artist Top 50.

Pearls are fine purveyors of glam rock, where sugar meets the grit. Fusing tightly constructed rock with dance sophistication and an unnerving grasp of pop, Superstar marks the coming of Pearls’ sophomore album, due early 2017, the follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut album Pretend You’re Mine.

Since the release of their debut LP last year, Pearls have undergone inter-band breakups, periods of intense touring, and a line-up reshuffle, but have emerged a band as assured as ever. Now riding the wave of a year spent in flux Pearls are feeding inspiration into, and putting the finishing touches on their new album. The band’s element of twisted romance has remained: “if Twin Peaks’ Bobby Briggs and James Hurley put aside their differences and started a band (inspired by the love, loss and life of Laura), they’d sound exactly like broody three-piece Pearls,” says Nylon, underpinned by a sound that is “fuzzed-out and wonderfully engaging,” as described by Spin.

Pearls’ track Big Shot has had several syncs including US feature film The Overnight. Superstar crashes onto the scene with its cowbell, synths and driving guitar and would be perfect for any summer campaign.

Promoting the upcoming series of My Kitchen Rules, this promo focuses on one of the teams, two fun and life-loving mothers. The uplifting chorus of A Head Full Of Dreams fits in perfectly with the attitude and spirit of these two characters and coincides with Coldplay’s visit to these shores for their upcoming December tour.

It’s week six for Peking Duk’s Stranger at #1 on the Hot 100 Australian chart. Competition in the form of Starley’s Call On Me has made itself known however, taking a new peak at #2 from #7. It’s unlikely that Stranger will fall from the top anytime soon, with both alternative and commercial radio still heavily invested in the track.

Masked producer Golden Features and his track Wolfie hits #1 from #9 on the Hot 100 Alternative chart, overthrowing San Cisco’s Slo Mo which is now at #17. The track also tops the triple j Hit List, as well as the triple j Spins chart.

Sia’s The Greatest returns to #1 on the AIR Singles chart after Flume’s brief stint last week with the Skin Companion EP. Though The Greatest tops the AIR Singles chart once again, she’s lost out on the AIR Radio Play chart. This is because Illy’s Catch 22 has made a giant debut at #1. Amy Shark takes a new peak at #2 on the Radio Play chart with Adore while San Cisco make their AIR Radio debut at #10 with Slo Mo.

The Amrap charts remain relatively tame as the year closes. A.B. Original still hold #1 with January 26 on the metro chart while regional radio continues to love 8 Ball Aitken’s Shut The Front Door.
