8Jiin't-lwtse CollPcfiO!IS (Mr. F. A. McNeill in cluu·ge; Cadet w. Board man , Assista,nt).-Advance in this section has been largely held back through shortage of bottlc.!s; in the absence of larger stocks the propor distribution of collections is impossible. Tlw eYa1>oration of spirit from the bottles has been kt•pt iu c.bcck through the efforts of Cadot A. 1\. LivingstoM, who has diligently attended to the coJl,~ctions in this regard. The large slate vats have been subject to periodical iH.spections and the contained formal.in preservative kept up to strcnath. No fungus &rowths arc now present. The overcrowding of the collections. felt so acutP!y last yeal'. has 11ow bee~ complctel:• overcome. Advantage has been taken of tho e.xt.ra space afforned by the p.ro,rision of another spirit-house, and most of the invertebrate collections arc now stor<'<i in these new 'luarters. This mow! will allow of greater facility in the proper systematic catalo~uing and distribution of the reference mutcria.I-n matt~.' I' at present recehring the greatest attention. Much work has been done in the preparin~ for de:~patch of coll('cting materials for use by the .Museum ~mployecs, and others intcrrstcd in the work of the institution.
