This summer, more than 20 of the Crystal Hills Combined Firewise Team neighbors attended a talk and Q&A session about how to effectively use a fire extinguisher to put out small home fires. Three representatives from the Dripping Springs Fire Station - Lt. Michael Chavez, Christopher Robbins, and Stephen Fretwell – brought a fire truck and helped folks from our joint neighborhoods of Ila Creek, Radiance, Goldenwood, and Goldenwood West learn about fire extinguisher use and how to be more Firewise in general. Goldenwood resident and Los Angeles Fire Department Captain, Cristian Granucci, brought a steel tray, fuel, and a striker, and about 8 people practiced putting out a fire with a fire extinguisher, increasing their comfort with how, when, and where to use the equipment if an emergency were to arise in their home. CHC Combined Firewise Team is encouraging neighbors to Firewise their landscapes. If you do any trimming, raking, limbing up, or other firewise activity report your hours to Elota Patton, CHC Firewise Team Facilitator, at [email protected]. Those hours help us stay an accredited Firewise neighborhood. Did you notice our sign is up off of Crystal Hills Drive? Thank you Debbi Cooke and Mike Sickmiller for the installation. Our next community event with Firewise may include community leaders such as Hays County Deputies to inform us on safety tips. Meeting date not scheduled. If you are interested in a class on best practices in tree trimming in regards to oak wilt, contact the administrator. Delbert Bassett has volunteered to host a class.

YARD OF THE MONTH The APC is recognizing properties that are well kept and attractive. The committee emphasizes that it is not encouraging excessive water use to water lawns or landscaping, but is encouraging property owners to take pride in keeping their yards neat and their
homes up-to-date on maintenance. The APC proudly recognizes the winners this summer. The APC
thanks them for keeping a well-maintained yard and home and for adding value to our Goldenwood West
neighborhood. The APC will continue the Yard of the Month this fall and winter.
