Attending school regularly helps children feel better about learning and themselves. Start building this habit now to help your child understand that going to school on time every day is important. This habit of good attendance will help them now, in high school, college, and at work. What can you do to establish this habit? Stick to a regular bed time and morning routines. Get ready for school the night before by selecting clothes and packing backpacks. Don't allow your child to stay home unless they are truly sick and avoid medical appointments and out of own trips when school is in session. Remember, school starts at 8:00 AM this year. Students not in class at that time are tardy. Please allow plenty of time for your child to get into the building and all the way to class before 8:00 AM. If your child eats breakfast with us, please drop them off closer to 7:25 to give them plenty of time. Thank you, Dr. Pierson, Mrs. Meaux, and Mrs. Allen

We encourage parents to continue the discussion of higher education at home during this week. The following activities will raise awareness and engage our students in an education after high school.

PTO would like to thank all of our volunteers for the Fall Festival this year. This event would not be possible without the help and support of our volunteers and teachers. November is quiet, but Santa will be visiting the students this year on December 17, 2018. Our next event is our Penguin Patch. Please keep an eye out for more details in Tuesday folders. Pre- K Our students have been busy learning all about community helpers!

The Firefighters came to visit with their firetruck! The students

learned about fire safety, how to stop-drop-and-roll, and what a

firefighter looks like in full fire-fighting gear! Fall is a great time to

check smoke detectors, replace old batteries, and practice your

family fire escape plan.

Students also learned to “Always Ask” before eating or drinking

anything they don’t know what it is. Poison Prevention week

taught us a great song to remember this safety rule. It is sung to

the tune of “If You’re Happy and You Know It”.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten is marching full speed ahead! In math, we have just finished comparing numbers 0-10. In November, we will be moving into joining and separating. Starting in December, we will be learning numbers up to 20. Parents, you can support this math at home by asking your child to identify numbers 0-20 or count objects to 20. In reading, we are working closely with non-fiction texts and understanding the information learned. Please read to your child every night and have your child tell you about what was heard. In writing, we are writing All About-books, lists, and invitations. Have your child help you write your grocery list and practice writing at home. Thank you for all you do for your student. Second Grade Team During the month of November, our

second graders will focus on non-

fiction books and in December, we

will begin reader's theater. One of

our big focuses this year is writing.

Please encourage your child to help

with writing holiday notes. In math,

we are currently working on place

value up to 999.

In mid-December, the focus will

shift to measurement and rulers will

be introduced. Encourage your

child to use a ruler and measure

household items in inches and

centimeters.

Fantastic First Grade In November, first grade will be making connections,

making inferences, and exploring characters during

Reading with fiction books. During Writing, we are

working on writing friendly letters. In Math, we will be

learning about generating and solving word problems

within 10 and using strategies to solve word problem

situations.

In December, first grade will be continuing to write

letters using the writing process. During Reading, we

will be focused on making predictions and asking

questions to get clarification while reading with fiction

books. In science, we will be learning about weather

and air. In Math, we will be comparing and ordering

numbers up to 99.

Third Grade News

During November in 3rd grade,

we will focus our reading towards

folktales, legends, and myths. In

December, we will switch to

drama. For writing, we will write

expository and procedural text.

We will focus our writing to a

specific audience.

In math during the next two

months, we will be covering

multiplication and division. We

would like your child to practice

x2, x10, x5, x0, and x1 at this

time. Please spend a few minutes

a day practicing facts to build

fluency.

The Third Grade Team

Fabulous Fourth Grade We had a fabulous trip to watch the Houston Symphony. Our

next trip will be to the Montgomery County Court house.

Please look for more details in your Tuesday folder.

During the next few months in language arts, we will be

working on nonfiction text. Our reading will focus on

expository and traditional literature. We will continue to

revise and edit in preparation for our STAAR Writing Exam

coming up in the spring.

In Math, we will continue to build on our knowledge of

multiplication and division. In December, we will move

forward with geometry.

Please make sure your fourth grader is at school daily. It is

crucial to have every student in our rooms to prepare for

middle school.

If your student is tardy, please park

and walk your student in to the

front office to sign in.

Transportation changes need to be

made before 2:00 p.m. You may

send a note or call the front office.

Students leaving early must be

signed out before 2:30 p.m.

When bringing birthday cupcakes,

please remember they must be

store bought and left at the front

office. The classroom teacher will

distribute the cupcakes at the end

of class.

Music News Mark your calendars! The Third Grade program will be on Thursday, November 15th and the Second Grade program will be Thursday, December 13th. The performance for families will be in the school cafeteria at 6:00 p.m. We hope to see you there!!

Our 4th grade students will be performing at The Woodlands United Methodist Church on Friday, Dec. 7 for the Montgomery County Food Bank "Share Your Holiday's Food Drive". All students will need to wear blue jeans with a white, long sleeve, collared, button down shirt for their performance. Be on the lookout for permission forms mid-November.

Art News First graders are working on dancing cow watercolor paintings. Second grade classes are painting self-portraits. Third grade is working on painting Texas barns. Fourth graders are stippling, or painting with dots, animal paintings.

Asistir a la escuela con regularidad ayuda a que los niños se sientan mejor respecto al aprendizaje y con ellos mismos. Empiece ahora a crear este hábito para que su hijo entienda que es importante ir a la escuela a tiempo todos los días. El hábito de tener buena asistencia los ayuda ahora, en secundaria, en universidad y en el trabajo. ¿Qué puede hacer para crear este hábito? Mantenga una hora establecida para irse a dormir, así como rutinas matutinas. Aliste las cosas de la escuela y la ropa que se va a poner desde una noche antes. No permita que su hijo se quede en casa excepto por enfermedad y evite hacer citas médicas y viajes durante horas de escuela. Recuerde que este año las clases empiezan a las 8:00 am. Si el alumno no está en su salón a esta hora, ya se considera retardo. Dele tiempo a su hijo de entrar al edificio y llegar a su salón antes de las 8:00 am. PTO quiere agradecer a todos los voluntarios su ayuda durante el Festival de Otoño de este año. Este evento no sería posible sin la ayuda de nuestros voluntarios y maestros. El mes de noviembre estará calmado, pero el 17 de diciembre, Santa Claus visitará cada salón. Nuestro siguiente evento es “Penguin Patch”. Pre Kínder ¡Nuestros alumnos han estado muy ocupados aprendiendo todo sobre los ayudantes de la comunidad! Los bomberos nos visitaron y trajeron su camión. Los alumnos aprendieron acerca de la seguridad durante un incendio: cómo detenerse, caer al suelo y dar vueltas. El otoño es buen momento para revisar detectores de humo, reemplazarle baterías viejas y practicar un plan de evacuación en familia. Los estudiantes también aprendieron a siempre preguntar antes de comer o beber algo que no sepan lo que es. La semana de Prevención del Envenenamiento nos enseñó una canción para recordar esta regla de seguridad. La canción se canta con la tonada de “If You’re Happy and You Know It”.

Kínder está a toda marcha avanzando hacia adelante. En matemáticas apenas terminamos de comparar números de 0-10. En noviembre separaremos y juntaremos números. Comenzando diciembre, empezaremos a estudiar hasta el número 20. Padres de familia, nos pueden ayudar en casa al pedirle a su hijo que cuente objetos o que identifique números hasta el 20. Favor de leerle a su hijo todas las noches y pídale que le diga qué entendió de la lectura. En Escritura estamos escribiendo Todo acerca de…, listas e invitaciones. Primer Año Fantástico En noviembre, primer año estará haciendo conexiones,

inferencias y explorando a los personajes durante la

lectura de libros de ficción. En Escritura, estaremos

escribiendo cartas amistosas. En Matemáticas,

estaremos creando y resolviendo problemas razonados

hasta el 10; usando estrategias para encontrar la

respuesta.

En diciembre, primer año continuará escribiendo cartas

usando el proceso de escritura. En Lectura, nos

enfocaremos en hacer predicciones y preguntas para

hacer aclaraciones. En Ciencias, aprenderemos acerca

del aire y del clima. En Matemáticas compararemos y

ordenaremos números hasta el 99.

Cuarto Año Fabuloso Tuvimos un fabuloso paseo al ir a escuchar a la Orquesta

Sinfónica de Houston. Nuestro siguiente paseo será al

Palacio de Justicia del Condado Montgomery. Favor de

buscar los detalles en el folder del martes.

Durante los siguientes meses en Lectura, trabajaremos con

textos de no ficción. Nuestro enfoque será la literatura

tradicional y expositiva. Seguiremos revisando y editando

para prepararnos para el examen STAAR de Escritura.

En Matemáticas, continuaremos construyendo conocimiento

sobre lo que ya aprendimos de multiplicación y división. En

diciembre estudiaremos geometría.

Por favor, asegúrese de que su alumno de cuarto venga a la

escuela todos los días. Es muy importante tener a todos los

estudiantes en el salón de clases para poderlos preparar

para la secundaria.

Noticias de Música ¡Marque su calendario! El programa musical de Tercer Año es el jueves 15 de noviembre y el de Segundo es el jueves 13 de diciembre. Los espectáculos para las familias son en la cafetería de la escuela a las 6:00 pm. ¡Esperamos verlos aquí!

Nuestros alumnos de cuarto año van a actuar en la Iglesia Metodista Unida en Woodlands el viernes 7 de diciembre para el Banco de Alimentos del Condado Montgomery “Share Your Holiday’s Food Bank”. Todos los alumnos tienen que vestir pantalón de mezclilla y camisa blanca de cuello, con botones hasta abajo y manga larga para este espectáculo. Esté atento a las formas de permiso a mediados de noviembre.

Art News Primer año está trabajando en dibujos con acuarelas. Segundo año están haciendo autorretratos. Los de tercero están pintando graneros Tejanos. Los de cuarto están haciendo pinturas de animales con la técnica de punteado (stippling).
