He served for 27 years of active duty, then joined the Alaska Air National Guard until retiring as a General in 1971. He worked in the insur-ance industry before retiring in 1985. Taylor passed away in November 2006 and is buried at the Arlington National Cemetery.

George Welch re-tired from the United States Air Force as a major in 1944, and became a test pilot for North American Aviation. He received some notoriety for reportedly being the first pilot to exceed Mach 1 in the pro-totype XP-86 Sabre (two weeks before Chuck Yeager’s record flight). Welch died in 1954 following a crash in a test flight in a North American F-100 Super Sabre. He is buried in Arlington Cemetary.

In Loving Memory of ...David Bruce Helms “Dave”

September 29, 1942 to November 11, 2011 A good man, a good father, a good friend; generous, patient and tolerant; a pirate who loved the sea and

its bounty; a sailor, a surfer and a smuggler; a poker player, a fisherman, “the boss” and a TV repairman. Dave was survived by his brother, Bob, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, his three children Summer, Kanoa

and Robin, two grandchildren, Nainoa and Kekoa, as well as many other people who loved him and considered him a true friend. You will be remembered and cherished in our hearts, always.

Join us on Sunday, December 4th at noon in front of his house in

Mokuleia, as we paddle out to scatter his ashes.
