Aurora 2-day shoot 12 th – 13 th September 2015 Huge thanks from Aurora to all of our archery friends who joined us for our recent September two-day shoot. Unfortunately numbers were down on last year as we contrived to clash with some other great shoots over the same weekend. We very much appreciate and thank those who chose to join us and look forward to welcoming back those who couldn’t come along on this occasion. Contrary to the prevailing Met Office predictions we were very fortunate that the weather gods were so kind to us over the whole weekend, a few spots of rain but mainly bright with dappled sunshine bringing out the very best of our fabulous woodland. This time we laid on a completely new course using more of the woodland on the west side of the concrete road (for those who know the course). Judging by the positive feedback it was a great success offering a wide variety of shots and settings to test the most discerning archer. To enable this we moved the glade to a new central position that worked very well (sorry for the walk from the car park – we’re working on that for next time). This even allowed us to throw in a curveball, open-field shot that certainly bamboozled a good number of people; our massive red deer in a dip at around 60 yards, slightly downhill across a ploughed field, and all in front of an appreciative audience at the catering tent… marvellous! Now for the thanks, firstly to Holly and Stewart for designing the all-new course that was universally acknowledged as brilliant - very testing but fair with beautifully staged shots, imaginatively using the terrain to great effect fabulous job guys! And of course to Paul whose expert supervision and eye for detail ensured the whole set-up operation ran with smooth precision. To the excellent catering team led by Teresa expertly assisted by Stuart, Matt, Louise, Theresa, Freddie and of course Agnes. Delicious specials and awesome cakes had everyone coming back for more! To the king of Admin Ian for keeping everyone in order and making sure the back office ran as smoothly as ever. To all of the club members that helped out over the weekend laying the course, marshalling the event and of course ripping everything down at the end – no mean feat. By name thanks due to Phil, John, Richard, Mitch, Adam, Richard, Simon, Brian and Danny. Thanks guys – we couldn’t do it without you. Finally not forgetting Reggie the cockapoo who was Peter Tricker’s personal therapist for the weekend! As always huge appreciation goes to Mick Mitchell and his Radical Bikes crew for letting us to use their facilities. To Lord Petre for allowing us all to enjoy his wonderful Parsons Spring woodland and to Chris Bucknell who was so very helpful in offering his land for the glade. So here’s to the next one – we look forward to welcoming you all once again on Sunday 17 th January 2016 for our New Year shoot. A great chance to work off the excess, seasonal calories and try out the shiny toys from Santa… See you then if not before. Martin Joy
