While I’m not excited about getting back into the nightly routine of piles of homework, a lack of sleep, and way too slow of mornings, I can’t wait to get back to school and visit each of our six Kiwanis Clubs! Speaking of Kiwanis Clubs, I’ll be visiting each of the 5 Kiwanis Clubs in Kiwanis Division 44, Key Club Division 45! Later, you can read when I’ll be visiting each of the clubs, and each of the officers can expect an email from me soon asking them to join me in a visit to their Kiwanis. This is something that you should be doing routinely, and if you’re not, you should start! They love to see Key Clubbers at their meetings and enjoy your company! See you all soon! Keeping yourself active in service and things that you enjoy make summer a whole lot more exciting, and give your mind the break it needs from all of your school work. DCM? What’s a DCM? It’s a Divisional Council Meeting, Silly! Representatives from each of the six clubs all meet together at this meeting to discuss items for all of the division. These are also times to ask questions and get to know your fellow officers at the other schools. Not to mention eat delicious frozen yogurt at Menchies!
Every DCM we have get better and better! Being able to have each of the clubs together at one meeting is great! We’re yet to have a DCM in which we have 100% club attendance, however… Let’s change that for the month of August! With our last DCM before school gets back into session, let’s get all six of our terrific clubs together for an amazing meeting! This month, we’ll be focusing on how to get a club started back up for a new year, how to use membership drives to increase participation and keep it all year long, and any problems or concerns that we see in the upcoming year! Doing this will allow us to foresee any problems that we may have, and plan accordingly! I hope to see you all at the next DCM, Thursday August 23rd, from 11-1pm at Menchie’s! Make sure to show up so that the Spirit Ball that Heritage won can be passed off to your club!

Our Intl. Board!
Rebecca Riley
Key Club International President
Alabama District
This year, as International President, Rebecca has some
amazing goals! First, she wants to have either the President or
Vice-President of the United States as a guest speaker at the
International Convention in Washington DC. She also wants to
make Keyclub.org more worthwhile and valuable to each and
every Key Clubber. She’d also like to secure at least $100,000
in corporate sponsorship for the ICON 2013. As an Imm. Past
International Trustee, and now International President, she has amazingly high goals, but will know how to complete them.
Caitlin Stroup
Key Club International Vice-President
Minnesota-Dakota’s District
During Caitlin’s term as Intl. VP, she plans to have much more
communication. Communication is the key to her year! She
wants to have more communication with the District Governors,
and having more input from them on issues concerning the
International Board. She also wants to have more
communication between the Circle K and Kiwanis International
Boards. To better the flow of the I-Board, she wants to enhance
committees. She’d also like to provide aid to Districts-in-
Formation and newly chartered and charting clubs, as well as
promote social media. As an Imm. Past Governor for Min-Dak,
she’ll do a terrific job as International Vice- President.

News from International
Do you have a passion to go above and
beyond the call of duty for the eliMiNaTe
Project? If so, the SLP (Student Leadership Projects) Subcommittee is looking for representatives. For those of you that do not know what the SLP subcommittee is, the subcommittee advises Eliminate Project coordinators on SLP-related fundraising initiatives. It contains representatives from all of Kiwanis's SLPs, including Aktion Club, K-Kids, Builders Club, Key Club, and Circle K. The Key Club International Board has the responsibility of recommending several potential Key Club representatives for the committee to Chairwoman Sue Petrisin, who then interviews our nominees and makes a final selection. Applicants have the option to submit one supplemental (optional) letter of recommendation from a faculty advisor or district adult to [email protected]. The application form can be found HERE and is due on or before 11:59 EST/EDT Monday, August 20, 2012. If you have any questions, please contact me!
Key Leader
Key Leader is a weekend experiential leadership program for today's young leaders. This life-changing event focuses on service leadership as the first, most meaningful leadership-development experience. A Key Leader will learn the most important lesson of leadership—it comes from helping others succeed.
Participants begin by attending a Key Leader conference, which is a weekend retreat. Large and small group workshops, discussions and team-building activities take place over the course of the weekend. Students have opportunities to learn leadership skills that will help them to change their schools, communities, and world for the better. While exploring leadership in a whole new way, participants will make amazing new friends and have experiences they will never forget. Positive, ongoing interaction with other Key Leader graduates offers continuing reinforcement, encouragement and growth of leadership skills.
When: Oct. 5th – 7th Where: Mount Hood Kiwanis Camp, Rhodedendron, OR How much: $175, which is $25 less, since you’re in Key Club! Where to register: http://www.key-leader.org/Find-Key-Leader-Events/Register-Now.aspx
You’ll meet some of the most amazing Key Clubbers you’ll ever meet from all over the PNW at Key Leader, and find your leadership skills within you that you may never knew you dad!
Trustee Update It was brought up to the International Board that the newly elected Trustee, Joel Nomdarkham of the
Jamacia District, was unable to attend the Lead-
ership conference for the Trustee’s and Governors due to a visa issue. After a long discussion amongst the International Board, it was decided that, in the
best interest of the districts of Key Club International, Joel be
removed from the office of Trustee. He has been
replaced by Zach Dameron of the Cali-Nev-Ha District.

The competitors at London are all there to win medals, but at the end of the day, the make lifelong friendships with their competitors and team mates, much as anyone in Key Club becomes part of a family. As our Trustee Calvin Leung said, “We all pay our dues to be a part of Key Club, but I pay mine to be part of a family.” Everyone in Key Club is an inspiring family, and I’m so proud to be part of such an amazing organization and family. Every Key Clubber is so inspiring and amazing. Thank you for all that you do!
need an answer? As the Olympics continue in London, and we’re cheering on Team USA as well as all the other amazing athletes, we know that they’re doing something that they love and care for. Being in Key Club allows for the same mentality. Doing something you love to inspire someone. While the athletes in London may be able to inspire an entire country, or the whole world, don’t think that your feats have gone unnoticed. You may be that one person who someone needed to show them the way. Seeing a group of teenagers giving up time to help someone out is very inspiring to many.
