Back to School

As the school year is coming, it is time for us to recruit new members! It

may be challenging to gather new members but here are some helpful

ideas to encourage your classmates and new students!

A great way for students at your

school to learn about Key Club is

during orientation. Clubs are able to

talk about what they do and why

their great, and this is a great op-

portunity to talk about Key Club!

Another way of getting Key Club

noticed at your school is by putting

up posters around school and hav-

ing the morning announcements

talk about when and where the

meetings are.

During the first meeting lure the kids

with food. Everyone loves food so

having food in the meetings always

attracts teenage kids. Having pizza or

baked goods are a great way to en-

courage the students into joining key

club :)

Officer of the Month

This officer of the month is Lisa Matsumoto!

She is the president at Lake Washington

High School. She has been in Key Club

since sophomore year and has made a

great impact in their club. She is an out-

standing officer, attending the monthly

DCM’s, continually serving the community,

and a great leader! Thanks for being such a

great officer and keep up the great work!

Here is some more information about Lisa!

What is the best part of Key Club for you?

The best part of Key Club for me is the

dedication and sense of community. Eve-

ryone is so devoted and excited to help

out, making each event enjoyable and at

the same time, gratifying. Key Club is also

such a tightly knitted community, making it

easy to strengthen friendships and even

create new relationships with other mem-

bers. Key Club is so amazing because just

by joining, I have made so many strong

bonds with people I would have never

been able to before.

Favorite season: Spring

Favorite candy: Sour gummy worms

Favorite quote: "So keep your head high,

keep your chin up, and most importantly,

Hershey’s Track and Field

Games! Key Club is newly part-

nered with this organization. The

HERSHEY’S Track & Field Games

is the largest youth sports pro-

gram of its kind in the United

States and Canada. Events

take place in every state and

most provinces in North Ameri-

ca, and hundreds of athletes

make it to the grand finale —

the North American Final in Her-

shey, Pennsylvania.

International Projects and Sponsors

With The Eliminate Project, Kiwanis International and

UNICEF have joined forces to eliminate maternal and

neonatal tetanus. This deadly disease steals the lives of

nearly 60,000 innocent babies and a significant number

of women each year. The effects of the disease are ex-

cruciating — tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful

convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch.

To eliminate MNT from the Earth, more than 100 million mothers and their future babies

must be immunized. This requires vaccines, syringes, safe storage, transportation, thousands

of skilled staff and more. It will take US$110 million — and the dedicated work of UNICEF

and every member of the Kiwanis family.

Kiwanis and UNICEF joined forces to tackle iodine deficiency disorders, achieving one of

the most significant public health successes of the 20th century. Now, they are eliminating

MNT from the face of the Earth. And in doing so, the project will reach the poorest, most

neglected mothers and babies with additional lifesaving health care. The end of this one

disease means the beginning of better health for so many families.
