New York District, Division 15 August 2012

Hello New York Division 15 Key Clubs!I hope you are all having a fantastic summer! I know a lot

of you guys have inactive clubs over the summer so I encourage

you to have a club meet up or do an event or two over the

summer. The summer is a great time to also plan what you want

to do for next year so you have a rough draft of what exactly you

are doing when the school year starts. Planing some of the

events that you want to do before the school year starts wil l help

keep your club on track and ahead of the game. Personally, my

club has planned out what we were going to do before the

summer began! I find this helps us do more over the school year,

as we add more events each month. I f you have smaller clubs

and wish to get the word out about Key Club, plan some

advertising for the beginning of the year, or have a meet up and

have people invite friends, so they can experience some of what

Key Club is.

In another note, I cant stress enough about Monthly

Report Forms. These need to be fi l led in and handed in, on time,

even if you do nothing for the month. The email also needs to be

CC:ed to me.

Also, be on the look out for Fall Rally information! I ts

coming up soon!

As always, feel free to contact me with any questions you

have about anything.

Thank you,

Lt. Governor, Caitl in Roberts

Key Club Mailing Gro

Have you subscribed to the Mailing list?Personally, I bel ieve that volunteering your time is one of the most

important things to do, not to mention the best way to spend your time. Key

Club is al l about volunteering your time to help other people around your

community and globally. So, Why Volunteer?

I love volunteering. For me its al l about seeing all the people that

you are affecting by spending a few hours of your time helping. A lot of

people our age dont tend to donate there time for the happiness of other

people. This is something I wish to improve. Volunteering is not only

rewarding but fun. I f you get a good group of people to volunteer with it

becomes more like hanging out , as long as you sti l l focus on the job. I

have volunteered at a lot of different places from churches, to help

teachers , to Key Club events. On top of that, you can volunteer your time

towards something you believe in or by doing something that you enjoy. I f

you enjoy reading, read to the elderly or to l ittle kids. I f you l ike art,

volunteer at an art studio cleaning or helping kids with art. Afterward, I

know that my efforts have helped someone else and that they are grateful

for my time and energy. I love volunteering and wil l continue to do so

during Key Club and after Key Club. I ts something that I am passionate

about.

As a side note, the Emipre Key wil l be posted on our division

facebook, for those of you who dont check your email , but would l ike to tak

e a look at it.

Upcomming EventsFall Rally and a Meet up

The Fall Rally is just around the corner and should be amazing. I

dont have releasable detai ls just yet but it is in the works. For those of you

who dont know, a Fall Rally is a ral ly with our division, and possibly another

one of our sister divisions, where there are workshops, food, and a lot of

Key Club Spirit.

Another thing that I wanted to touch base on in a way of meeting is

that meet up in Saratoga I was talking about. I have not gotten much feed

back on it, but I would love to do a meet up in Saratoga or, well anywhere

basical ly. I know its hard because we are a very spread division, but I

would l ike to know if there is any place you guys might have in mind? If so

shoot me an email and I wil l try and make it work. I wil l also be visiting your

home clubs this upcoming school year, which I am VERY excited about. I

cant wait to see you all again.

Ready? Set? Volunteer!Summer is a great time for Service.

Even if your Key Club is inactive, it doesnt mean you cant volunteer

or encourage a few of them to do small volunteering projects with you.

Even if only part of your club volunteers, you can put it on your monthly

report form, and it wil l count. This can help change the blank forms to

forms with a few projects on them. Here are some ideas:

-Shelve books at your local l ibrary; Small local l ibraries over the

summer become a bit more active then in the school year and sometimes

take volunteers to help them shelve books. Plus, you might see some

books that you like to check out : )

-Volunteer at a nursing home; Whether its making some snacks, or

reading, or throwing a bit of a summer party for the elderly with your

friends, its always a good idea to help out nursing homes. The people

there love it when they see young folk around and caring about them. I ts a

good way to have fun and do something very meaningful to someones

lives.

-Volunteer at a local SPCA; SPCA's tend to take volunteers to do

work l ike cleaning out a kitten room, or grooming some animals. I f you love

animals and being around them, this might be your chance to volunteer.

-Reading or having a field day with kid; I f you enjoy hanging out with

younger kids, you could have a reading time with them at a local l ibrary or

start a field day with activities and help from your club

-Have a meet up with your club and Advocate; Write a letter to Wal-

Mart or another well known store and see if they can donate some school

supplies famil ies in need of them for the school year

The ideas are endless.

International ConventionBeing Key Clubbers in Florida

I had the privi lege to attend Icon, or the International Convention in

Florida. This convention is where hundreds of Key Clubbers attend

meetings and workshops. Icon is extremely important for Key Club

members to attend because we vote for our international board members.

These members are vital to running Key Club smoothly at the international

scale. Apart from voting in new international board members, we also

voted on changes to the by-laws of Key Club.

Another part of Icon is the workshops. There were tons of

workshops from Public speaking, to are you smarter than the international

board, to Advertising your club, to march of the dimes! There was also

talent acts, speakers, dances, a service fair, and much much more. There

was even a huge pin trading thing going on and our own Key Club TV

channel to watch at night.

This was my first time going to ICON and I love it. Everyone there

was as excited to be in Key Club as I was and they all wanted to share

service ideas and what there home club had been up too. I learned lots of

new things l ike service project ideas, about the international board, and a

bit more on how key club worked.

ICON is an experience like non other and its something that I think

every dedicated Key Club member should experience at least once in your

l ife. I t real ly shows you how much of a difference Key Club makes and how

its not just around us, its International! I am extremely happy I was apart of

it!

This is Governor Daniel Ivan Lin and I hope you are all having an

celebrated the merits of our organization and all that we have

accomplished in a service year. With the election of our new international

board, I would l ike to congratulate Jack Vielhauer in his election as

international trustee. I f you haven’t done so already, please subscribe to

the district mail ing l ist. You can do so through the district website. There’s

more to come.

Yours in the Spirit of Service,
