    2016 CHURCH BASEBALL

Games are held weekly on Wednesday nights with the next game on August 10th

at Norval Norval against NBUC. Game time is 7pm. This is the last game of the regular

    season!

Status from last night’s game: While we are searching for our first win of the season, we played

great baseball last night losing by just 1 run. A big shout out to Sydnee for her inside the park

home run, and ’the Branden’ for his amazing catch in left field, just avoiding a collision with a

tree. There were a number of doubles and even more singles in our 12 to 11 loss.

Even if you don’t want to play, come out and cheer our team on! Contact is Jon Curran.

    THIS SUNDAY, AUG 7th IS

    Bread Basket Sunday.

    Thank you!

*** VBS COOKIES DONATIONS - THANK YOU! ***

ST. ANDREW’S SUMMER WORSHIP THEMES 2016

August to September - Grant Williams will be leading worship.

“ I am” Seven week worship series

In the four Gospels Jesus’ unique authority and identity as the Son of God are expressed in

sayings which begin with the words ‘I am’ (Greek, ego eimi), a phenomenon most frequently

seen in John’s Gospel. In the synoptic Gospels we see an example of this when Jesus comes

to the disciples walking on the water and he identifies himself by saying, ego eimi, ‘I am’, which

the NRSV translates ‘It is I.’

John’s Gospel - Seven times in John’s Gospel we find Jesus saying ‘I am’ and then adding a

    vivid metaphor.

    I am the bread of life 6:35, 41, 48, 51.

I am the light of the world 8:12, 9:5.

    I am the door/gate of the sheep 10:7, 9.

    I am the good shepherd 10:11, 14.

I am the resurrection and the life 11:25.

I am the way, the truth and the life 14:6.

    I am the true vine 15:1, 5.

Three of them, ‘The bread of life’, ‘light of the world’ and ‘resurrection and life’ interpret

miracles Jesus has performed. Two of them, ‘I am the good shepherd’ and ‘I am the true vine’

imply that the Jews as the people of God, Israel, will be replaced by the followers of Jesus as

the people of God, new Israel. Two others, ‘I am the door/gate’ and, ‘I am the way the truth and

the life’, make Jesus the only way to enter into a saving relationship with God.

    July 31 - “I am the Bread of Life” - John 6:22-59

August 7 - “I am the Light of the World” - John 8:12-20

    August 14 - “I am the Door/ Gate of the sheep” - John 10: 1-10

    August 21 - “I am the Good Shepherd” - John 10: 11-18

    August 28 - “I am the Resurrection and the Life” - John 11: 17-27

September 4 - “I am the way the truth and the life” - John 14: 1-7

    September 11 - “I am the True Vine” - John 15: 1-17

    CHRISTENING BABY BROTHER

After the christening of his baby brother in church, little Johnny sobbed all the way home in the

back seat of the car. His father asked him three times what was wrong.

Finally, the boy replied, "That priest said he wanted us brought up in a Christian home, and I want

    to stay with you guys!"

    Grant’s World Grant’s World Grant’s World

This week has been a fabulous week at our annual Vacation Bible School. The theme this

week is Cave Quest. We have been spelunking all around the church. There are caves every-

where! The children have been learning new stories about Jesus being the light of the world.

This week we have about 54 children and 24 junior leaders participating. Each day the

children have received a daily bible buddy which has the daily scripture verse on it to remind

them of what they have learned in the program.

Over all the week has been going very smoothly and I owe a huge thanks to all the teen and

adult helpers who have done a phenomenal job running the program this week. We owe a

huge amount of thanks to Tracey Bazso, Margaret and Ross Yahiro who have put in countless

hours before the program and each day after the children have left for the day. We could not

    have done it without you!

Last night our baseball team had a fantastic game! This year we have been challenged with

getting our team numbers each week but last night we were mostly present. Here is a little

snippet from our team captain Jon Curran.

“While we are still searching for that first win of the season, we played great baseball last night

and lost by just 1 run. Final score was 12 to 11 and there were a number of great plays from

the team. A big shout out to Sydnee for her inside the park home run and the Branden for his

amazing catch in left field, just avoiding a collision with a tree. There were a number of

doubles (Grant & Colin) and even more singles from all players.

The tournament schedule has been released and I have attached it to this note. We play our

first game of the tournament on Wednesday August 17th at Hornby against Immanuel. Our

round robin games on Saturday August 20 are at 9:15 and 10:30. Tournament games are a

little shorter, only 5 innings and a maximum of 1 hour. The Tournament is held at the Gellert

Centre in Georgetown and both our games are on the middle Diamond.”

We hope to see you out to support our church team at the ball tournament on August 20th.

    See you on Sunday,

    Grant

    Cave Quest VBS Is Happening!

It has been quite a week! We ended up with 54 campers, 24 Junior Leaders and

approximately 16 Adult Volunteers! There has been lots of music, lots of talking

about God and Jesus, playing games, fun crafts and snacks.

We owe a huge thank you to Tracey Bazso for volunteering to coordinate again this

year! She has put in a lot of time organizing as well as planning and coordinating

all the decorations! Tracey, you are truly amazing!

Thank you also to Grant Williams for being a co-coordinator. As usual, he works

behind the scenes to help ensure everything goes smoothly.

The other leaders will be spotlighted as their photos are published.

If you haven’t dropped by this week, you will have missed seeing the entrance to

the Sanctuary turned into a cave! The youngest group also have a cave entrance

    to their room!

Stay tuned in the upcoming weeks for More VBS Photos and thank you notes!
