August 2020 Birthday Wishes for September Tony Borg 01 Barbara Brian 26 Val Banks 04 Peter Hughes 30 Doc Vigna 18 Congratulations to Tony Borg who hits a milestone of 70 years. It comes from good living eh Tony. Happy Birthday Boys & Girls with many more to come! SICK BAY Our most treasured Treasurer Mike Drew was in Sunshine Coast Hospital after suffering a suspected heart attack after playing at Biggenden. He probably saw Tony Borg’s scorecard too. Mike is doing ok just needs a few stents (5) & he will be as good as new, until he sees the seating in the bull dust arena. Which has been fixed. Now all we need to know is who donated them! Jan Leader is in it came about on a fishing trip according to hubby Kevin, she slipped & got hooked by a tree branch which opened her thumb area. VALE Our sincere condolences to Ray Maskell on the sad passing of his father, our thoughts are with you. Bill Dalrymple It is also with much sadness that we inform you that Billy Dalrymple has passed away at the ripe old age of 86 years. Billy was a great character & one of the stalwarts of the Club for many, many years. Gone but never forgotten. Both the Veteran Golfers & the Main Club held a http://www.burrumdistrictgolf.club.com.au Email: [email protected]PREFERRED LIE - BUNKERS At the moment there is a preferred lie in the bunkers, place, not drop, within a card length, the ball must not be placed forward! Must be back or to the side not closer to hole! This has been passed as a local rule by the Match Committee. SOCIAL DISTANCING We have to maintain all aspects of Social Distancing which includes 1.5metres distancing. We are slipping back into old habits so be aware people. A big welcome to our new members,
Mac Adlam Greig Pullinger, Ian Dartnell
& Samantha Smith.
Bob Dillue & Paul Johnson have rejoined.
We hope you all have an enjoyable time with us,
Bob & Greig have also joined the Burrum Vets.
The Saturday Morning Competition have requested
clarification on the handicapping of cards for their
competition. Neil Clarke has more on this. I am quite
happy to put the results in the newsletter if you so
We have to maintain all aspects of Social Distancing
which includes 1.5metres distancing. We are slipping
back into old habits so be aware people. We must sign
in when we come in & leave, the registry book is just
inside the Club House doors. No handshaking, just
touching putters will suffice!
CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?
Sue Berkery finds it hard to believe. Sue lost 3 handi-
cap points recently but the Maltese Falcon lost just 1
after a great win at Biggenden of 44pts!
DAMN DAM
I am in again on the 6th. Sue Berkery went in from the
5th but if you thought that was the end of it you were
wrong! She went in after that little sucker & beat him
out, great shot, no fear Sue is her name!
Les Bennett went in from the 13th he borrowed a ball
off Neil Clarke, Les said it was a good ball, Neil said it
is specially trained for just this occasion!
HOW MANY
On Beryl Cox’s Memorial Day there were 31 players
who competed. The winners were Jenny Nichol & Ken
Steven. Congrats! There were 11 away due to health &
other issues so it would have put the boys in the office
under pressure, but we know they would have handled
42 players on the day. Be prepared men it’s coming!
Thanks for the day Reg Cox we all appreciated it.
Good to have our new players out having a game on
Vets day, they did enjoy themselves. Bob Dillue won a
prize with his partner Andrew Pulsford.
NOT PAST LADIES TEE
Neil Clarke didn’t get past the ladies on the 5/14th as a
matter of fact he didn’t get off his own tee! Chris Bush
is there also.
WHOOSH!
I had a beauty on the 8th it was going to land on the
green, but hit the ground & it was all over red rover!
Neil Clarke had the same on the 14th tee!
PUTTS
Lorraine Drew is fast becoming a great
putterer! Her success rate is phenomenal! A
few wins will come her way! You go girl!
Barb Brian is another that has the putting
game under control unlike the bulk of us!
Brian Bramble & I played with Mark Ranfurley, Brian
said he’s on 15 we are on 24….wanna see if we can
bring him down to our level! And we did, sorry Mark
but it was a fun day!
Ray Suter played an Ambrose with Shirley Bullock as
his partner, Ray said to Shirley we will take your drive
eh Shirley responded with that would be a good idea
seeing as though I am a good 15 yards in front of you.
Ray said she could be very hurtful sometimes!
#*%&!
A lot of foul language is coming into its own lately.
Time to reign it in fellas. Not appreciated by the ladies,
a bit of respect please!
Inside and Out
Someone asked about the white line on the 7/16 green
& was told it was to remind Trevor Allen where the
sprinkler head is because he usually runs over it with
the mower. The grass will eventually grow back into
that line.
John Horwood was seen strutting around wearing his
Brentford scarf, what happened to Manchester United?
He said Brentford has always been my team, could
make the finals with a win tonight. Haven’t heard how
they went yet. Oh dear maybe next year John. I myself
am sticking with Manchester United......by the way
they won!
Ten Burrum players played at Biggenden in their
return trip of their yearly stoush, it ended up in a draw.
One winner who stands out was Tony Borg who came
in with 44pts and only lost one shot. Better not tell
Sue, Tony! There was some excitement after this game
when Mike Drew was rushed to the Sunshine Coast
Hospital with a suspected heart attack after he arrived
home.
There was Kevin Leader taking first prize again but
Chris Bush said no, no ain’t yours tis mine I beat you
by one shot. A bit of a mistake that was riddled
through the competition. Les Bennett was given first
prize even though he really was in the brd without a
ball because he won a pin shot? His marker, me, didn’t
fix the top of the card & nobody checked the score. So
Trevor, I have put it in. But the cards need to be
checked better don’t they.
June Kerr won the card draw because no ladies got on
& stayed on. June is the most winner of a card draw
ever that should get her a trophy at the end of the year.
Sue Berkery was on but rolled off, thought she was
closest but it didn’t count. Jan Leader did the same.
Whatever happened to the Accuracy Shot. It would be
a better deal for the ladies at least some think it is a
two horse race with the long drives, same for the men.
It is just a couple of balls so how about it!
Ray Crosby hasn’t been able to land on the 3/12 greens
for many months he said but come Beryl Cox’s
Memorial Day & he lands on both times & there was
NO pin shot! Ray was disappointed that Reg wasn’t
there he wanted to catch up for a chat. We all wish you
well Reg & thank you for your sponsored day.
LOST PROPERTY This was found on course….who owns it,
come on own up! It’s a 2 speed, overhead
cam, pull start homing device! Somebody
needs it!
p2
Someone had this last Sunday & left
the odour behind. One of the men
were responsible, go see a doctor
please!
‘What do you call a woman who
throws her credit card in the fire?’
Burnadebt!
What do you call a man who loses his phone …..
constantly? could it be one Trevor Allen, this time it
was in long grass down by the 9th tee. Thanks to Phil
Kennedy for helping out by ringing Trevor’s phone.
Won’t be long now!
The Chook Runs bounced back from the week before
when there were only 7 who turned up because of the
drizzly rain. Sooky babes!
Kevin Leader couldn’t make up his mind whether he
wanted to be Evel Knevel or if he was trying to
emulate Hughie Lucas. He had forgotten to check that
both ramps were down when he was unloading his
cart. Now, the missus was responsible for that ramp
side but she sashayed off to get her coffee & forgot to
put it down. You guessed it Big Kev jumped into the
cart & cool as a cucumber reversed the cart off…...the
side & down to the ground. The memories that
brought back of Hughie. Anyway Kevin’s ok there
wasn’t much to talk about between him & the missus
though, & he got runner up. He did ask before he took
custody of his meat tray if there was any protests!
There was a bit of shenanigans going on in the cart
park area, June Kerr walked away from her car leav-
ing the back door wide open. She walked back a
couple of times but never shut the door, Ray Berkery
ended up shutting the door, guess she thought Rod
was going to shut it except he wasn’t there. Don’t
know what she’s on!
Barb Brian was in the middle of a rock & a hard place
when her ball landed between the sand bucket & the
6th tee. Was she worried…...yes but she got it away, I
had to use my putter she said. It was easy, she
channels Wayne Pearce so well! Good one Barb!
Still don’t know who donated the seating in the bull
dust arena A couple of names have been put forward
seems strange that no one has made a comment on
who donated them they are not a cheap gift.
Before sending the Vets off Captain Kevin Leader
asked for silence in honour of our old mate, Billy
Dalrymple who passed away on the weekend at
Wagga. RIP Billy, say g’day to Wayne! Gone fishin’
Good to see Mike Drew back, he somehow managed
to miss out on his application to the above group. He
did get a warning that it could be reversed if he wasn’t
careful!
COMMITTEE SNIPPETS
GUR The posts that were erected on the 5th fairway are to
be removed. The match Committee has said the area
is Ground Under Repair so you must drop back.
The idea is to hopefully grow the grass there. There
was a stake warning of the hazard. They are GONE!
According to Trevor there is a problem with some
people going around the bollards at the left of the
1/10 green. The bollards are put there for a reason,
Trevor is not happy that some are ignoring these &
the ones on the 5/14th.
The Working Bee
Was held on Saturday 22 August with 15 people in
attendance they were in alphabet order;
Andrew Pulsford, Bill Brand, Bruce Noble, Craig
Edwards, David Burraston, Gerald ?, Ian Anderson,
John Short, Marilyn Allen, Mike Dally, Neil Clarke,
Peter Griffin, Ray Berkery, Sue Berkery, Trevor
Allen & also to Danielle for getting the lunches for
all the workers! Many thanks to all involved.
Bravo! the basket off the 4/13th fairway is no more!
The dangerous trees & limbs were removed which is
terrific some were slowly falling down.
David Burraston called for a minute silence in
honour of Billy Dalrymple, David told the story of
Billy’s hole in one. He explained Billy got a hole in
one on the 3rd hole after his ball hit a tree that USED
to be there. Used to be as in when Ron Baxter found
out how his hole in one came about he cut it down!
Just love it doncha! Good men now gone. RIP
Ray Suter wanted to know if when he dies will be a
tminute silence for him. Not likely Ray, well he said,
will there be a eulogy read, the conversation quickly
went down hill then with death being high on the
agenda! Somehow we got onto the Lee Marvin film
Cat Ballou. Jan & I started singing the song & the
whole table started to sing “I Was Born Under a
Wandering Star.” Ray was thrilled he said will you
sing that at my funeral? We all said NO!
Ken Steven is looking for accommodation he wanted
to know if I was still renovating the cottage at
Lightning Ridge, I said what qualifications have you
got, none he said, I just thought I could stay there.
Another NO! Then the subject again went to death.
Ken explained to Jan the different ways to bury
someone. Jan was a little too interested Kev. I told
them we had an uncle that we buried face down, Jan
asked why (you asked for it Jan) I said burying him
face down when he started to dig out he was actually
going down further! True! Jan’s eyes were like
saucers. Geez it was a good day!
Peter Griffin is back so all is right in the world!

July numbers are up by 37 overall still needs work
on them but every tally up is good. If we keep the
fun in the game the numbers have to climb.
Oops we had a slide back in August but now the
weather is warming up players will come out of
hibernation!
The weather is warming up & so are the numbers
playing which is great to see. Sundays win this
month mainly due to having an extra day! A win is a
win so the other days have to step up to take the
crown!
Y’all up for it! Let’s go!
Marilyn Allen was helping out at the working bee
when she had to get the Subaru out of the compound
it was a tricky manoeuvre executed without a
hitch ....until she was told that she had driven over
Trevor’s chain saw! I heard a bit of a bump but
thought is was in the back of the Subaru, she said!
Doc Vigna Rajah donated a table setting to the Club
& the Club bought the other. Took a while to find
out but there you have it. Thank you to Doc, a nice
gesture.
Grahame McKissock went into the dam 0n 5/14th,
Shirley Bullock went in on 15th the ball ran around
the edge of the dam & decided it would be fun to
see Tony Borg hit it out without getting wet. We
were taking bets on the side when the Maltese
Falcon hit it out, never got a drop on himself either
the big lug!
Actually Tony was liking the places Shirley was
putting him in especially the tree on the 1/10 he was
backed up to a tree like a big ol’ grizzly, as a matter
of fact he was enjoying the rub a little too much!
