We enjoyed the food and company but were left with a question, "What does a church men's group do?" Together we will find the answers. Bear hunting is probably not an option, but hunting may be on the agenda. The men agreed to an upcoming work day at the church, so service will be a part of the men's group. Some of these men are experts at grilling and smoking meats so good food should be coming to us all. One thing the men did agree on was that no one was interested in 6 a.m. breakfast meetings on Saturday mornings. Together we will work to develop a group that involves prayer, devotions, service and just plain fun. Come share the journey with us. Officers of Oaklawns UMC Mens Group: Joseph Faulkner-- President David Sweet---Master of Mirth Kelly Beaty---Treasurer Administration Council Meets after the second worship service on August 13. All committee chairs should be in attendance and be ready to report upcoming fall activities. We will be giving out commodities for low-income senior citizens aged 60 and above on Thursday, August 17 from 2 to 4 p.m. (We may start early if the crowd arrives early) Join us for a great Spaghetti Lunch after the second service on Sunday, August 27. We offer our

Christian love

and sympathy to:

To the family of Nan Merchant

who passed on July 23, 2017.

MISSION OF THE MONTH

You may donate to the mission anytime during the month through the church by making your check out to the church and putting the Mission name on the memo line of your check or envelope. A “mission box” is on the table in the church foyer into which you may place your ‘above the tithe’ offering. The mission we are supporting for the month of August is Oaklawn Food Pantry.

FLOWER

CALENDAR

Call the church office to place your requests.

They will be received on a first-come, first-served basis.

The price for the altar flowers per Sunday is $40.00. Checks are made payable to Oaklawn UMC

with ‘Altar Flower Fund’ on the memo line. Available dates are: Aug 27; Sep 3,10,17.

Scripture Memory Verse for the Month: 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and

are justified, and it is with your mouth that

you profess your faith and are saved.

Oaklawn UMW will be collecting school Supplies for UMCOR Ingathering during the month of August. We need the support of the whole church in this endeavor and your donations will be greatly appreciated. We will have a receptacle in the Fellowship Hall where you can deposit your donations. A list of needed items was posted in the July Newsletter. This is just one of the ways that we as UMW can support children and youth around the world.

We are a mission oriented organization. We sponsor local mission projects throughout the year, and raise money for UMW missions for women, children and youth all over the world. We are always looking for new people with new ideas to share our endeavors. UMW needs women of all ages— willing to chair and help with activities. If you would like to be involved in a small group, a mission or service project then come join us. We have two circles, one meets at 10 a.m. and the other meets at 6 p.m. on the 2nd Tuesday of each month during the school year for fellowship, Bible Study and service. The first Tuesday of each month the two circles meet together as a Unit for study and fellowship.

Throughout the year we have Bible Study programs and Social Action programs. Sometimes we have an outside speaker from places like Jackson House, Ouachita Children’s home or Safe Haven for Women.

We subscribe to the Response Magazine our UMW Mission Magazine. We keep copies in the church library for anyone to be able to read about what UMW are doing around the world. The July-August issue has a very good Bible Study…”Therefore Go With the Winds That Carry”. God calls us to go and put faith, hope and love into action in a world in need. Our faith, hope, and love can make a difference in a troubled world.

Mr. Sparling Says Hello Everybody!

Go see him at Lake Hamilton Rehab.

Congratulations to Clay & Jessica Wells
