Take a look around… opportunities are

everywhere. Sometimes it is just stopping to take

a moment to look around before we can actually

see them.

I think a lot of us get caught in the trap of

thinking of all of the things we don’t have here in

the area instead of focusing on and emphasizing

the things that we do have! And we do have a lot

to be very grateful for!

We have one of the few remaining drive-

in movie theaters in the state. They recently won

the title of WCCO’s viewer’s choice for Minne-

sota’s BEST Drive-In Theater!

We have a pristine and beautiful 18-hole

golf course.

We have a fine array of businesses that

can meet nearly (if not all) of your daily life

needs and more. We have specialty shops and

entertainment that is unmatched in the area.

We may not have tall skyscrapers or a

hundred different malls to shop at, but what we

do have are hard working business owners who

make it their mission to provide the best value for

the dollar. We do have these business people who

care about the future of our small town. We do have opportunities for advancement beyond

what we can image through the use of upcoming technology that is available right now.

The next time you look around and wonder about Long Prairie and what we have to of-

fer, remember, opportunities are everywhere! You might just have to stop and look at them.

Minnesota Chamber of Commerce

President David Olson dies

David Olson, who led the Minnesota Chamber of Com-

merce for nearly a quarter century, was remembered

fondly Thursday by associates as a staunch business

advocate who always found time for a light moment

and common ground with political opponents.

Olson, 57, died late Wednesday, July 16 after the sud-

den return of cancer that had appeared to be in remis-

sion.

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of my friend and colleague David Olson,” Charlie Weav-

er, executive director of the Minnesota Business Partnership, said in a statement. “David

made a difference. He fought hard to make it easier for large and small businesses across

Minnesota to grow and prosper, but he never took himself too seriously. He was widely re-

spected at the [Minnesota] Capitol by Republicans and Democrats for his integrity, passion

and sense of humor. Any meeting he attended was sure to involve a lot of laughter. He will

be sorely missed.”

The Olson family placed word on the CaringBridge websiteWednesday that he returned to

the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis last Friday after a recurrence of

lymphoma. He died after 11 p.m. Wednesday. ~photo and article from the Star Tribune

“The Sign” coming soon!

A s you know,

networking and

making connections is

high on the list of the

benefits of being a

Chamber member.

It was through a

networking connection

that the Long Prairie

Area Chamber of Com-

merce was able to work

with the Todd County

Health and Human Ser-

vices Department

(specifically through the

Citizen’s Against Drugs

Coalition who are

Chamber members) to

work on funding to

make the electronic sign

not only a dream, but a

reality.

The new sign is

scheduled to be in-

stalled in the month of

August and will feature a full color Daktronics display, updated signage above the electronics

and a new paint job that will enhance the visibility of the sign.

The sign is being installed by new Chamber members Rose City Sign and will feature

positive community norms messages from the coalition along with community events, infor-

mation and messages from our Long Prairie Area Chamber members.

We are looking forward to the installation of the sign and hope that it will enhance the

total Long Prairie experience!

presentation from Rose City Sign.
