Last month, we talked about 1 Corinthians Chapter 12. In this part of the let-

ter wrote to the church of Corinth, Paul reminds the church they are the body of

Christ. One body is made up of many different kinds of members. No member is the

same, yet every member is needed for the body to function correctly. On Sunday, July

20th, our body of Christ came together to discuss ideas on how our church can move

forward in following what God would have us do. We started by hearing about how

honeybees work. One honeybee only makes 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey during its

lifespan. But a whole honeybee hive makes 30,000 to 60,000 pounds of honey with

the bees working together. From there, we shared some

things that were on our hearts and minds. Several ideas

were shared as to what this might look like. One of the

main themes I took from the meeting was a need to

deepen ourselves spiritually, while at the same time

serve our community. We ended our Sunday by taking

communion with each other, remembering how we are

all united through Christ. Our church is putting a team together during this month to formulate ideas

that were shared on July 20th. A sign-up sheet was placed in the vestibule of the sanc-

tuary for people to sign up for this team. If you didn’t get the opportunity to sign up,

it’s not too late! Please come and talk with me if you are interested. I ask that every-

one pray for our new team. They will have a big task at hand in trying to determine

how to make our ideas real and tangible. This process will only be productive if we

first seek what God would have us do, and then work together in that direction sup-

porting each other the best we can. Every member has their place in the body of

Christ. This month brings on two huge opportunities to share God’s love with others

in our community. We will be collecting school supplies for local children in need.

Education is one of those things everyone needs, but is vastly

hurt if not supported by the community. A list of the most-

needed supplies is in our newsletter. We will also be taking

monetary donations as well. Just be sure to mark your

checks and envelopes for “Back-to-School Supplies.” Teachers

and staff need to be shown care as well. Our church will hold

our third Teacher & Staff Luncheon for Spring Hope Elemen-

tary this year. I ask that everyone will consider how you might

be able to serve others in these capacities. By participating in

events like helping local children and showing teachers and staff they have very impor-

tant roles, our body of Christ will be sharing his love with our community. I look for-

ward to serving with everyone at First Baptist!

In Christ,

Kevin
