In the midst of the summer season,t h e re is a break in time

and Obon Odori onS a t u rd a y, August 2nd, with the foodbazaar
beginning from 3 p.m. and cul-minating with the Obon Dance fro
m7:30 p.m. There will also be culturalevents such as Taiko, FlowerA
rrangement, Koto, and Tea Cere m o n y.
The culmination of the ObonProgram will be the First Obon
Serviceon Sunday from 9:30 a.m. for thosefamilies who lost loved
ones betweenlast year’s Obon and this year’s Obon. The main Obon
Service will beginfrom 10:30 a.m. with guest speaker,Rev. Ken
Fujimoto, Rinban of the SanJose Betsuin. He will speak both
inEnglish and Japanese.
The Obon Service is unique in thatin the middle of the most
hectic timeof our lives, we are asked to take timeout and to
reflect on the reasons as towhy we are here, to deeply reflect
onall the reasons and persons that madeup our lives. If we can find
a deepsense of gratitude for all those livesthat made up our lives,
then we candance with joy in our hearts for theinterconnected past
that is the sourceof our lives today.
With this profound understandingof our lives, we return to the
hecticworld of our lives, but with a betterunderstanding of what we
must do.
