August 16, 2011 What is worship? Most dictionaries will point you to an old english term “worthschipe” meaning an acknowledgement of worth. The most common greek word translated as worship from the New Testament is “proskuneo.” Literally it means “to kiss toward” At its core worship is about seeing God as He is: Holy, Eternal Creator, Sustainer, Provider, One with no Beginning or End, Redeemer, Friend. All of these are biblical expressions of who God has revealed Himself to be and each is a reason He alone is worthy of praise. When Moses asked who he should say sent him to pharaoh God said tell them Yahweh (translated THE I AM) sent you. Worship is first and foremost recognition of the I AM.
