Pastors PageIn 1 Kings 17, Elijah is prepared in ways that he might nothave ever foreseen his future. He is taken to the pool ofCherith %pruning&, and to the house in Zarapeth %refining&where God stretches and grows him by faith through grace. Then He calls the prophet to show himself.

In 1 Kings 18, Elijah stands before the wicked King Ahab, and declares the mercies of God, going so far as to face 850prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel. The culmination isElijah calling down fire from heaven and slaying thewickedness of Baal in the sight of the people.

1 Kings 19 opens with Jezebel, the wife of Ahab, declaringthat by tomorrow she will kill Elijah for what he has done.In fear he runs for the southernmost town in Israel,Beersheba. Charles Spurgeon, reflecting on 1 Kings 19, saidthat Elijah had, retreated before a beaten enemy.

I find it so interesting that in the midst of apparent victoryElijah chose to run. In a place that the Lord made Himself

marvelously and powerfully known, he ran. Then, Ireflected on my own life. How many times have I retreatedfrom the enemy, which scripture has clearly told us, hasbeen defeated by the cross? Too many to count.

After service on Sunday, I was remembered this verse from2 Timothy 1:12: Yet this is no cause for shame, because Iknow whom I have believed, and am convinced that he isable to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day.

We dont have to run in shame if we keep ever before uswhom we have believed in. In missing to do this we willdefault to our own perceived and self inflated strength and

fail, because the weapons we fight with are not of thisworld. Our strength is not enough.

Thats the beauty of this verse, because it reminds us thatby walking in this manner we will remain convinced thathe %being Jesus&is able to guard. So, do we just let go andlet Jesus do it? Well, yes and no.

What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of soundteaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus. Guard thegood deposit that was entrusted to you'guard it with thehelp of the Holy Spirit who lives in us. 1 Timothy 1:13"14.

Sound teaching reminds us of the truth of God, and ourlove for Jesus drives us back to that teaching, because weare passionate to know more of Him. The guardian of thegood deposit of that teaching is two"fold. It is yourobedience to the things you have been taught and yourresponse, girded by the help of the Holy Spirit, Hisstrength, to that teaching.

So dont run from an enemy that has been defeated. Standfirm. Stand fast, and by the hope and help of the HolySpirit, guard yourself against defeat where there is alreadyvictory.

Almost all of us have a camera on our phone

and take pictures of all kinds of things fromour meals, kids, sunrises, sunsets, and allkinds of other things.

Every few days Pastor Jason posts anencouraging picture message from hisFacebook account. These pictures areoriginal works that are created from picturesthat Pastor Jason has either taken himself orborrowed %by permission&from others.

This picture was taken by Michelle Lewis

Have you taken a picture recently that hasstirred your heart, or saw something throughthe lens that you would like to share?

Simply email that picture with a few wordsabout it to:[email protected]

and Pastor Jason will use it to create a dailyencouraging picture that will be share withmany and credited to you.

Together we can become a part of the waysthat God is using the church to be anencouragement to many out in thecommunity while proclaiming the messagethat in a world that seems to be falling apart, that Jesus is Alive!.
