This informal talk provides insight into two ground-breaking studies related to 16th century Mexico by the Franciscan Fray Bernardino de Sa- hagún (1499-1590) and 18th century Peru by Bishop Baltasar Jaime Martínez Compañόn (1737- 1797). Both scholars produced monumental manu- scripts on the natural history of their areas that were published centuries later. Both of these works con- tain valuable illustrated information on the life of birds. Co-sponsored by Bexar Audubon Society and the San Antonio Natural Areas. 49 Mayors Join Launch of NWF’s Mayors'Monarch Pledge Dec.16,2015 //reported by: Linda ArguetaThe National Wildlife Federation today announced 49 mayors in16 states have taken the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge, launching anational campaign asking mayors to commit their cities to a se-ries of specific actions to make their urban habitat friendlier tothe declining monarch butterfly and other wildlife. Among the firstwave of pledge signers are Ivy Taylor, mayor of San Antonio(America’s 7th-largest city), Mike Rawlings, mayor of Dallas(9th), Steve Adler of Austin (11th), Betsy Price of Fort Worth(16th), Mick Cornett of Oklahoma City (27th) and Francis Slay ofSt. Louis (60th).“By taking the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge, these leaders are set-ting an example of how every American can help save this iconicspecie, while also ensuring future generations can enjoy theirspectacular metamorphosis and migration” said Collin O’Mara,president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation. “If we allwork together — individuals, communities, farmers, land man-agers, mayors and local, state, and federal agencies — we canreverse the monarch decline and ensure every American childhas a chance to experience amazing monarchs in their commu-nities.” From the NWF website where you can read more at: www.nwf.org
