Auditions For The WOODLAND THEATRE PRODUCTION of Director: Sean Taboloff Producer: Nancy Christopher Auditions on: Saturday, November 16 th , 2019 10AM-4PM Woodland Theatre, Kettle Falls What to prepare for: If you are auditioning for Mary Poppins, Winifred Banks, Miss Andrews, Jane and Michael Banks, Bert, George Banks, Bird Woman, Von Hussler, John Northbrook, Robertson Ay, Bank Chairman, Park Keeper, Valentine, you will be asked to sing from the selections noted herein. Please review and know the songs before auditions! A pianist will be provided. In addition, you will be asked to do cold readings in small groups from the script. If auditioning for the chorus, you will be asked to sing “Let’s Go Fly A Kite” in groups and in a solo situation to evaluate your vocal range and abilities. All those auditioning will learn a short dance number and perform it in groups. If you have special talents, as in tumbling/gymnastics/ballet/Irish dance, please let the director know and be prepared to show them off. Please wear appropriate shoes for the dancing. Bring all known rehearsal conflicts for January-March. You may want to bring a sack lunch. We will try to be finished by 4PM. Parking available behind the theatre, follow the signs. Questions? Rehearsals start January 2 nd , 2020 (We rehearse usually in the evenings 6-9PM Monday-Thursday & Saturday 10-4PM-subject to change) Characters: Bert-Narrator of the story, a man of many abilities and friend to Mary Poppins: to play 20-40 year old George Banks- Father to Jane and Michael Banks, a banker to his very core: to play 40-50 Winifred Banks-Mother to Jane and Michael and George’s wife, struggling to find her place: to play 30-40 Jane Banks-High spirited sometimes snobbish daughter of George and Winifred: to play 11-12 Michael Banks-Cute and cheeky, excitable and naughty, he adores his dad, George Banks: to play 9-10 Katie Nanna-Jane and Michael’s first nanny in the show, she is overwhelmed by the children: to play 20-40 Policeman-a neighborhood fixture respected by all: to play 20-40 Miss Lark-Haughty Neighbor who treats her dog like her own child; to play 30-50 Admiral Boom-Retired Royal Navy man, has a soft spot for Miss Lark: to play 40-60 Mrs. Brill-Housekeeper and cook for the Banks family, overworked and harassed, but warm underneath: to play 40-50 Robertson Ay- Houseboy to the Banks, lazy sleepy and grumbling, feels useless at times: to play 18-30 Mary Poppins-The new nanny-she is extraordinary and strange, neat and tidy and practically perfect: to play 20-40 Park Keeper-Officious, stickler for the rules and regulations, but longs for his childhood days: to play 20-40 Neleus-The statue of Poseidon’s son, who comes alive to befriend Jane and Michael in the park: to play 16-25 Queen Victoria-A statue in the park; to play 40-60 Bank Chairman-Mr. Banks boss, an Edwardian stuffed shirt: to play 50-60 Miss Smythe-The Bank Chairman’s humorless secretary: to play 30-60 Von Hussler-Business man seeking a loan for shady dealings, German accent; to play 30-40 John Northbrook-An honest business man seeking a loan to build a factory for his neighborhood: to play 30-40 Bird Woman- Worn and tattered, she sells crumbs for the birds on the steps of Saint Paul’s cathedral: to play 30-60 Mrs. Corry-Owns a magical gingerbread shop and speaks with exotic accent, woman of great age: to play 40-60 Miss Andrew-George’s overbearing and scary nanny. A bully who knows one way-her way: to play 40-60 Ensemble: Annie, Fannie (both daughters of Mrs. Corry), Valentine (toy soldier), Teddy Bear, Mr. Punch, Ballerina, Raggedy Ann, Clown, Monkey, Park goers, Bank Personnel, Chimney Sweeps. In addition, we need talented, well-behaved children for family units i.e., Park Goers, Sweeps, 8 yrs. old on up. Children will be asked to dance and sing during auditions. Audition Tips: This new Disney version is similar but different from the iconic 1964 movie-but rest assured, the new songs make it even more enjoyable, and fun! Attitude means a lot-this may be your family for the next 3 months-be polite to others and staff. Project, speak well, and smile! And remember, anything can happen if you let it.
