A special thanks to our outgoing officers/volunteers who have served us all so well. We have such a great group that makes everyone’s job easier (especially mine). I also want to introduce the new officers and give all our members an opportunity to provide some feedback on what we can do better or volunteer for the coming year. After attending the leadership conference last month, Lisa Siedzik and I have learned a lot about the IIA’s new initiatives and have been able to discuss some plans for moving forward and continuing to build on our won- derful Chapter. Our Chapter continues to achieve the highest ratings and it is because of the passion and commitment of all our members that make sure we have a good and productive group. If you are interested in helping with the Chapter or have any ideas for us to consider, please feel free to contact Lisa or I directly. We will be developing our goals and plans for the coming year this month and would love your input or comradery. Here is hoping we continue to be able to demonstrate our commitment to being great in our jobs and our Chapter, and have fun doing it. A Special thanks to our old Officers, rolling off the board, who have helped us all and served us well: Eileen Marzak who served as Secretary for the past 6 years Lily Ly who served as Secretary, Vice President and two terms as President, and Past President during the past 10 years Thanks to all our new Officers that are stepping up to serve our Chapter for 2017-2018 (see last page of newsletter). Thank you, Joe Cannella

2nd Annual Student Audit Case Competition

The Chapter hosted a successful 2nd Annual Student Audit Case Competition for University of Flori-da students. The event drew support from major accounting firms. Students were able to show off their knowledge of internal controls and the IIA’s Three Lines of Defense in Effective Risk Manage-ment to auditors from Carr, Riggs & Ingram, PwC, KPMG, and RSM.

Special thanks to Carr, Riggs & Ingram LLC and PwC who provided the monetary prizes for this year’s case competition winners. We

would also like to thank UF professor Dr. Christopher Falk for encouraging his account-ing students to participate in the competition. Lastly, thank you to the judges (Frank Mason,

Irene Gilchrist, Tonya Carrigan) and all the mentors (John Byrd, Carlos Holt, Sachi Leon, Laura Ling, Lily Ly, Brian Mikell). These vol-unteers worked with each student team to

share their professional experience and helped the teams prepare for the competition.

First Place Winners Left to right: Hao Wang, Haoran Lin,

and Juan Ledezma Turner with their team mentor, John Byrd.

Second Place Winners Left to right: Suzie Trick, Devin Moore,

and Shannon Swain.

Third Place Winners Left to right: Slater Canan, Patrick

Sweeney, and Max Frost.

Case competition judges (left to right): Frank Mason

(Carr, Riggs & Ingram), Irene Gilchrist (PwC), and Tonya Carrigan (UF Health Internal Audit)

May Roundtable Meeting: IIA Standards Update

John Byrd, UF Health Internal Audit, provided an update to the International Professional Practices Framework for revisions effective January 1, 2017. This was a the first meeting the Chapter was able to implement live web streaming. The Chapter was not able to offer CPE for attendance via the internet (at least not yet) but viewing via the inter-net will be an option for future meetings held at the UF Human Resource building.

John Bryd (IIA District Representative), Lisa Siedzik (Chapter Vice President), and Joe Cannella (Chapter President) visit the new IIA Musuem at IIA Headquarters during the May 20, 2017 District meeting with other IIA chapters. The District meetings are valuable in allowing chapter leaders to network and exchange ideas for running a successful year of chapter programs.

May was Internal Audit Awareness Month

Below, Joe Cannella (Vice President/Incoming 2017-18 President) and Eileen Mar-zak (2016-17 Secretary) accept the City of Gainesville’s proclamation for International Internal Audit Awareness month.

IIA Chapters across the world cele-brated May as Internal Audit Aware-ness Month. Chapter members helped celebrate by receiving International Internal Audit Awareness Month proc-lamations from Marion County and the City of Gainesville. Of course, any cel-ebration wouldn’t be complete without some cake, like the one had during the May Roundtable Meeting.
