Specialist topic = Film

� A study of a specific studio or production company

within a contemporary film industry that targets a British

audience (eg Hollywood, Bollywood, UK film), including

its patterns of production, distribution, exhibition andconsumption by audiences.

� This should be accompanied by study of contemporary

film distribution practices (digital cinemas, DVD, HD-

DVD, downloads, etc) and their impact upon production,

marketing and consumption.

� Understand how media institutions currently operate

� Explore ideas about how audiences use media

What the specification says� You must answer one compulsory question

based upon a case study of a specific mediaindustry (Film)

� Through specific case studies of the centre¶s

choice, candidates should be prepared todemonstrate understanding of contemporaryinstitutional processes of production, distribution,marketing and exchange/exhibition at a local,national or international level as well as British

audiences¶ reception and consumption.� There should also be some emphasis on thestudents¶ own experiences of being audiences of a particular medium.

How will You be tested?

� You will have to answer a question during your key media concepts exam

� You will need to develop case studies based onparticular studios / production companies

� This institution must be located in thecontemporary film industry and it must produceand/or distribute films to the UK.

� You will also need to discuss your experience asan audience member of film

� You will study at least three films and be able todiscuss them at detail in your answer
