I have covered the full range of genders within my target audience. However what I discovered was that the majority of people that I surveyed were Male, which leads me to two theories. The first is that most people that read magazines are male, and the second is that by coincidence I questioned mainly males. Because it is quite balanced thought, I will make my magazine for both genders.

I have covered the full range of ages within my target audience. This showed me that the majority of people that I asked about my magazine were 17 – 18, this to me means that they are most likely to buy a magazine as they were the ones that also said yes to buying magazines regularly, more so than the others. This means that I will target this age group with my own magazine.

What I identified through this question was that there is a gap in the market at present for a Rock magazine, a few people made comments off record that they want more punk/grunge related content as this is not covered much at the moment. There were also those that went for Dance and pop, which hints at these being second best, so they could also be looked at for part of the magazine, if it is to be an all rounder.

HOW DO YOU FIND OUT ABOUT NEW MUSIC?

InternetFestivalsGigsMediaOther

What I found about this is that most of the people I asked this question prefer to get a hold of new music through the internet, either to stream or download, which I did look at later on. The second favourite was gigs, which shows again linking to the Rock genre that people are wanting this type of magazine as it is not catered for at present. Also this shows that there should be a good link between the magazine and the internet so that people can still discover music the way hey are comfortable.

HOW DO YOU GET HOLD OF MOST OF YOUR MUSIC?

StreamingCD’sDownloadOther

This again was how I predicted, as most people use the internet to find out about new music, it was logical to assume the use of streaming and downloading would be the same, which it was. This is mainly due to the fact that it is much easier for indie rock musicians to release tracks online, so people will use these methods to get a hold of this type of music. Which is again why I will be working in conjunction with E-methods to source and link information in the magazine.

WHICH OF THE BELOW DO YOU PREFER?

Live MusicRecorded MusicOther

There was a clear mix between the two choices, nobody voted for other, so I decided that it would be best to assume that both types of music would be received well in a Rock magazine, especially if it has coverage of gigs and festivals as well as band reviews and interviews.

This answer showed me that people that buy magazines are willing to buy them between a week to a month between them. The majority picked monthly and this would have been the rate at which I would want to release my own magazine as it is the most reasonable when in conjunction with price, which people also made a point of in the later questions.

In this question I was able to see what average page length per issue people like, there was a real peak of 12 people for 70 – 89 pages, which is a good amount of content per month. Also this can be taken up to 100 pages with adverts and such so there will be a large amount of content here for the readers, which means people will be able have a large amount content per month.

On this question there was a real variety of answers from under £1 to nearly £4. The majority of people were in the price range of £2 - £3 and this is understandable, as it is affordable and is good value for the amount of content there is in the magazine. This also means that people will be drawn to the price that is being offered, as well as the fact it is an indie rock magazine.

WELL WASN’T THAT

MAGNIFICENTIn Conclusion: I have decided that I will produce a Multi Gender magazine for 17 – 20 year olds that like Rock music. This Rock magazine will have links to the internet and social media sites as people showed an interest in the ability to access both, as well as links to legal downloads from the bands of their new records and albums, with coverage of a mix of live and recorded content, including reviews, interviews and other exciting stuff. The magazine will have a monthly release with around 80 – 100 pages per issue (including advertisements), this will provide the reader with enough coverage for the month as well as a few spoilers as to what will appear in future issues. Finally the magazine price will be around £3.50 as it would be a decent price to pay as it is affordable but not what is paid for a cheap magazine, which will give myself a target audience that are working, or with pay, that can go to the gigs and concerts listed and so the magazine will have endorsements from bands, to help get their band noticed by the readers.
