Engines

DieselWe introduced TDI to the roads in 1989, and since

then, weve continuously reined it, including developing

common-rail technology. Under this system, a series o

piezo injectors use electrical charge to precisely control

the amount o uel injected into the engine. As well

as reducing noise, this allows combustion to happen

at a lower temperature, with less oxygen, which

lowers emissions.

Transmission

8-speed tiptronicThe Audi Q7 comes with an advanced 8-speed tiptronic

transmission system which reduces both uel consumption

and CO2 emissions. It converts high-torque engine power into

sporty perormance and operating convenience, with crisp,

ast gear changes and an optimised gear-shit strategy. More

spontaneous gear changes are a particular beneit, especially

when downshiting. Both in the D (Drive) and S (Sport)

programme, the advanced electronics used in tiptronic

respond eiciently to every driver input.

Recuperation

When a vehicle brakes, the discs convertthe kinetic energy into thermal energy, which

is wasted as it cannot be used. With a

recuperation system like the one in the Audi

Q7, the kinetic energy is converted into useul

electrical energy. The way it works is simple.

While the car is coasting or braking, the

alternator voltage is raised above the level o

the basic electrical system, which enables the

alternator to generate electrical energy and

store it temporarily in the battery. When the

vehicle accelerates, this energy is used to

relieve the load on the alternator, resulting

in a uel saving o up to 3%.

Efficiency

At Audi, doing less is something were tryingto do more o. Were working to use less uel,

release less CO2 and waste less energy.

Its why weve incorporated a number o more

eicient technologies into the Audi Q7.

Aerodynamics

A cars shape can have a big impact onits eiciency. Its why weve worked to

make the Audi Q7 as aerodynamic as

possible, including technology such as

adaptive air suspension that responds to

changes in speed. It means that the Audi

Q7 becomes more aerodynamic at high

speeds, while still oering good ground

clearance in o-road situations.

Automatic

Start-Stop function*

In heavy traic, your car still uses

uel and releases CO2, even when itsstationary. The automatic Start-Stop

unction counteracts this problem by

switching o the engine when your car

comes to a standstill. As soon as you

release the brake pedal, the car restarts.

*Only available on 3.0 TDI engines.

Its the technology that gave us the edge on

the rally circuit rom the moment it was irst

introduced over 30 years ago, bringing victory

or the Audi quattro on its very irst outing.

Its called quattro permanent all-wheel-drive.

In this system, our permanently driven wheels

deliver better acceleration, road-holding and

saety, while asymmetric-dynamic torque

distribution intelligently controls the low

o power to the ront and rear axles.
