Lenny Henry, 24 June Acclaimed UK comedian, actor, writer, TV presenter, and radio host Lenny Henry returns to his roots with a funky, funny and personal one man show, Cradle to Rave , about the thing he loves most: music.Touring to Auckland and Wellington in June 2012, Cradle to Rave is Henry’s most personal show yet, offering a hilarious and touching insight into a man to whom music matters a little too much. From growing up thinking Elvis was a relative as there were so many pictures of him in the house, to missing a cue during his acclaimed theatrical debut as Othello because he was listening to hip hop, Cradle to Rave sets Henry’s family, fi rst loves and fame against a musical backdrop – a comic cabaret voyage through his life told via its eclectic soundtrack.Cradle to Rave peers behind the curtain of Henry’s successes to examine his life and his thwarted musical ambitions, with plenty of laughs and lots of funky tunes along the way.Directed by the critically acclaimed UK theatre director Richard Wilson, Cradle to Rave is Henry’s musical journey from fan boy to the greatest singer the UK never had. Auckland offers a host of activities and adventures, from sophisticated museums, galleries and sightseeing attractions, to urban adventures, harbour cruises, scenic offshore islands and award-winning wineries.
Auckland lies between two stunning harbours – the Waitemata and the Manukau. The city’s residents enjoy a relaxed, outdoor lifestyle, with vineyards, parks, sandy beaches and rugged ranges right on their doorstep. Down at the waterfront, the Viaduct Harbour is a good place to begin exploring. Take in the harbour highlights on a cruise, help sail an authentic America’s Cup yacht, or catch a ferry to one of the Hauraki Gulf islands. You can climb to the summit of bush-clad Rangitoto Island, visit the wineries and art studios on Waiheke, picnic on the beach at Motuihe or see endangered native birdlife on beautiful Tiritiri Matangi.
Head uptown and you can ride the lift to the top of the Sky Tower – the Southern Hemisphere’s highest – for magnifi cent views of the city and harbour, or raise your heart-rate with a SkyWalk® or SkyJump®. The city’s landmark Harbour Bridge has more adventure options to tempt the daredevils, including a bridge climb and the world’s fi rst bridge bungy.
Culture vultures will fi nd themselves at home in the city’s sophisticated galleries and museums. You can browse New Zealand’s largest collection of art at the Auckland Art Gallery, view the rare Maori taonga (treasures) at Auckland Museum, go sailing on a heritage vessel at Voyager New Zealand Maritime Museum or ride the historic tram at MOTAT.
There are plenty of family attractions to keep you busy. Join a guided tour of the Botanic Gardens, watch the sharks being fed at Kelly Tarlton’s, get up close to the animals at the Auckland Zoo, enjoy the latest amusement rides at Rainbow’s End or head north to see an authentic Kiwi farm show at SheepWorld. Further afi eld, you’ll fi nd tranquil bushwalks, wild surf beaches, historic villages and award-winning wineries to discover.

For detailed information on the New Zealand road code, the offi cial guidebook is available at most bookstores and petrol stations.
Road RulesYou must be 21 to hire a rental car or mobile home, and show a current driving licence and/or an international licence. New Zealand drives on the left so remember to keep left at all times. All traffi c turning right should give way to a vehicle coming from the opposite direction and turning left. This applies at cross roads, T-intersections and driveways where both vehicles are facing each other. New Zealand law requires all the occupants of a car to wear a seatbelt at all times while mobile. It is illegal to use a mobile phone while driving unless it’s ‘hands-free’. At roundabouts, always keep left and give way to all traffi c on your right. The speed limit on the open road is 100km/h and 50km/h in residential areas unless otherwise marked. The New Zealand Police enforce all traffi c laws, including the speed limit and dealing with accidents. All accidents must be reported to the police within 24 hours. Dial *555 on cell phones for non-emergency accidents. Obtain the driver’s name and address and vehicle registration number.
Tips for Safe Driving• Speed cameras are in use on New Zealand roads – take care
not to exceed the signed speed limits as fi nes can be heavy, not forgetting the safety factor.
• If you notice traffi c building up behind you, pull over at a rest area to let it pass. Be extra careful when rejoining traffi c.
• Winding roads, diffi cult terrain and adverse weather conditions will slow you down, so allow plenty of time to reach your destination. Comfortable driving distances in a day are 200-300km, but less if you want to stop and enjoy attractions.
• Ensure you are at least two seconds behind the vehicle in front.• Ringing bells and fl ashing red lights at a railway crossing signal
that a train is coming. Many railway crossings are not controlled by barrier arms. Look out for the distinctive X-shaped railway crossing signs, and take extra care.
