No Refunds Policy Your committee have reluctantly decided that when tickets are ordered they must be paid for, unless advised differently, and if you find you cannot attend the event you have bought the ticket for, it is up to you to sell that ticket on, and no refund will be given by U3A, unless there is a waiting list in operation. This is because some events have run at a loss due to people suddenly cancelling and expecting their money to be refunded. After all, if you book seats at the theatre, or a bus trip and found you couldn’t attend, you would lose your money, and, regrettably, we must have a similar policy.

Workshop – we have arranged a Creative Writing Workshop on the 10th October from 10am – 3pm at Acacia Centre, Annesley Woodhouse which will provide expert tuition on creative writing using the history of Annesley Old Church and Annesley Hall as examples. The prompts could involve romance, ghosts, exploration, disputes or even a famous duel. This workshop is free but places will be limited so sign up early to avoid disappointment. Art Group.

There has been renewed interest in having an Art Group. If you were not able to add your name to the list at the September meeting, would you please contact me preferably by email [email protected] or otherwise on 750466 to discuss dates. I am hoping that we can meet for 3 hours and spend 2 or 3 months on a particular topic. Initially we will use water-colour; I have some materials which can be used by those who are new to painting. I intend that we will also do some still life drawing and pastels and hopefully perhaps have a go at oils. I would very much welcome an input from others in the group from time to time. We will pay £10 each up front to cover room rental (Ashwood Centre) for as long as it lasts.

Short Walks Coffee Morning 6th September Leen Valley Golf Club The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss how best to ensure that walks continue in the event that the walk leader on the day is severely indisposed and unable to lead the walk. We now have several volunteers from the group who have agreed to lead future walks in pairs, thus ensuring we have a leader available to lead the walk. It was also agreed the group would walk January to November with leaders volunteering in advance to do certain walks, and an annual programme of walks to be produced but with the flexibility for change as required. The members of the group volunteering their services are as follows:- Sue Bloomfield January (Linby/Newstead): Helen Rose February T.B.A. Margaret Crossley / Nona Sheriston (2 walks) one in March T.B.A. John Ellis Paul Healey April - (Eakring) Sue and John Tedstone Geoff Cree Shirley and Mike Dawes (Farnsfield) Brenda and Alan Paul Sandra and Terry Braithwaite Jim Bentley Thank you to all the above for volunteering, the group can now continue Those wishing to put their names forward to lead walks would be most welcome, for those on the list your suggested walk and proposed date for next year would allow me to start next years programme. The walks programme for this year is complete. We need suggestions for a Bluebell walk for May next year?? It was also agreed our walks criteria would be as follows:- Walk length 3-5 miles: Moderate terrain; as few stiles as possible: Steady pace We can now be assured that the Short Walks Group can continue as is has done in the past by offering regular monthly walks in the surrounding area.

Our October meeting has been moved from the usual first Monday to the following Monday, October 8th, but at the usual time and place – 2 pm, Ashwood Centre. These are the themes for the last quarter of the year (we’ve switched November and December):

October 8th - Members’ Choice November 5th- N & E European composers

December 3rd - Patterns in Music To all members of the group, please bring your favourite CD, tape or vinyl to share with us on October 8th. What we listen to will depend on you! On Sunday 2nd September, Ashfield and Hucknall Weekenders had our first get together and met up

for a meal at the new Italian Bella Mia in Hucknall.

20 of us enjoyed each other’s company and a most excellent meal. Most opted for the 2 courses at

£12.95, with portions being generous and extremely tasty. I think it would be fair to say that the majority

of people would recommend this restaurant, lots of seating, very spacious inside and landscaped areas

for outside dining. We plan to have another joint meal in December.

LAST CHANCE TO BUY YOUR TICKET The well-known author, broadcaster and garden expert will be visiting us again

on Thursday, October 4th. 7 for 7.30pm

Murder Mystery evening Saturday, October 27

th, 7.00 for 7.30pm

We will present a Murder-Mystery evening, with a troupe of players providing the action. The theme will be the Wild Wild West!

Come dressed for the action – six shooters and Stetsons, feathered

headdresses etc., - not compulsory, but it would be fun.

This time, your committee will provide a two course chicken supper, -

(there is a vegetarian option), with food placed onto tables of eight, to

ensure that EVERYONE gets their fair share.

We have realised that we must do this ourselves, as relying on outside

caterers invariably means there is not enough for the last two tables, -

- and we must avoid this.

Tickets at £11.00 per head and table plans are now available
