Personal StatementMy ultimate intrigue lies in the area of the human mind. The actions and behaviors of others doesn’t

interest me, it is the reason behind those actions and behaviors that does. Most people can become consumed with people’s actions whereas I find myself being consumed in the potential reasoning behind those actions. I firmly believe that there is a reason for everything; that there is a reason why humans do everything that they do. That interest is what propelled me to further my education and study the ever evolving field of psychology. It is that same interest that will be the driving force in my pursuit of attaining the next level of education and finding the right position for me in this field.

My experience in the field of psychology includes all that I have gained in the process of attaining my BA of Psychology, where my GPA has never fallen below a 3.6. I have taken a variety of classes in the areas of psychology, statistics and research. I have especially enjoyed those classes that focus on youth as that is where an individual’s psychological structure begins to emerge. I have also thoroughly enjoyed the classes that are focused on substance abuse and the subsequent issues that commonly transpire.

My current work experience is in the field of management. Although to some this may seem to be far different than psychology, I have been able to observe how they are related. Throughout my experience in management I have been able to see the growth of others. I have helped others reach their career goals by guiding them. I have found that oftentimes people do not know what they are capable of and sometimes it simply takes hearing it from someone else. Others do not feel as though they are capable of taking on a different position but with some guidance they are able to be successful in that new position. It gives me great satisfaction to know that I played a role in their growth, even if it is a small role, and I have helped their development.

That employment has also crossed into working in a pharmacy setting as I also work in the pharmacy. In doing so, I have had the opportunity to listen to patients who come in to get a prescription filled. Some have just received terrible news from their doctor and I am their first contact after that. I feel it is my duty to at least attempt to ease their pain before they walk out that door. It may be about showing them a bright side or telling them a related experience or simply listening to them.

I really get to know the people who come in which gives me the opportunity to learn about them, their families and the problems they may be facing or dealing with. Once again, I am able to see psychology intersect in my position. The feeling that I get when I see someone who has changed for the better is euphoric to me. I could not imagine anything else taking the place of that.

It is that sense of satisfaction, pleasure and euphoria that I wish to gain from working in the field of psychology. There is a variety of ways that a person can assist someone in need. I find great satisfaction in discovering those ways and applying them in real life situations. It is easy to label a person, such as a sociopath, a liar, a murderer, etc. but it is far more difficult to find the reasoning behind the term one has been labeled with. I feel that anyone has the potential to make a difference in someone else’s life and it is my personal goal to do this as many times as I possibly can throughout the rest of my life.

My interest lies in psychology. My ultimate goal is to be successful in this field and I believe that I have the ability to do so.

ReflectionMy academic tenure at Argosy

University has deepened my intrigue of the human mind and psychology in general. Although I have the same goal as I did prior to starting here, I believe I have gained a foundation and an awareness in psychology that has only strengthened my capabilities of reaching that goal.

My goal is to be successful in the field of psychology and that has always been my goal. I expected to learn the different aspects of psychology and the basic knowledge that has inspired an abundance of great theories and psychological perspectives. What I did not expect was to discover that I have a profound interest in working with children. From that I have gained another goal and that is to work with children.

What I have learned in a personal perspective is that I have a strong determination to do my best at all times. There was never a time that I gave up on any assignment during my tenure at Argosy University. In that, I have also learned that there are certain aspects of psychology

that I need to continue working on. Determining and understanding research designs and methods is something that I feel needs improvement.

My Future in Learning

While I have already gained a profound amount of knowledge in my studies thus far, I intend to keep learning. Psychology is an ever changing field. There are always new theories that need to be further explored. Furthermore, there are also many theories and psychological concepts that are proven wrong or inaccurate over the course of several years. My ultimate goal in education is to attain my PsyD. I intend to use the education I already have and

apply it to further education I intend to receive.
