Annual Marian Rosary All are invited to attend and participate in this year’s Annual Diocesan Marian Rosary Festival on May 6, at 2 p.m. at Emmanuel Church in Delray Beach. This annual event pays honor to and encourages reflection on the Blessed Virgin Mary and her many titles. This year the festival will honor “Mary, Mother of the Church.” In early March, Pope Francis decreed that the Church celebrate the Virgin Mary in her role as “Mother of the Church” every year on the Monday after Pentecost, as a way to foster Marian piety and the maternal sense of the Church.* Highlights of the diocesan festival include: the public recitation of the mysteries of the Rosary in various languages; a display of the various Images of Our Lady for veneration and devotions; Coronation and Consecration to the Blessed Virgin Mary; Benediction led by Most Rev. Gerald Barbarito; and a procession through the beautiful grounds of the parish. These festivities allow participants an opportunity to experience the wide variety of diverse cultures that form the mosaic of the Catholic members of our diocese. Groups such as Knights of Columbus, CCW, Columbiettes, Parish Organizations, Catholic Schools,
Cultural and Rosary groups throughout the diocese, etc., are invited to participate in the procession of
images. Sponsorships and monetary donations are also needed. For more information, please contact
Linda Coz at [email protected] or call 917-930-6094 or 561-496-2480. The
Procession Registration Form, Sponsorship Form and the Festival Poster are available on the
diocesan Events Calendar at www.diocesepb.org/events
*More information on the new Feast Day: With the decree made by Pope Francis, the feast of "the
Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church" will be added as a fixed date to the universal Church’s
liturgy calendar, General Roman Calendar, the Roman Missal, and the Liturgy of the Hours. as a fixed
date. This year the feast will occur on May 21.The Latin text has been published, and the translations
will be prepared by the bishops’ conferences and approved by the congregation. A celebration of a
memorial generally means that prayers and readings specific to the day’s memorial are used in the
Mass.
This memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church, has been added to the Marian title of
“Mother of the Church,” was given to the Blessed Mother by Bl. Pope Paul VI at the Second Vatican
Council. It was also added to the Roman Missal after the Holy Year of Reconciliation in
1975. Subsequently, some countries, dioceses and religious families were granted permission by the
Holy See to add this celebration to their particular calendars. With its addition to the General Roman
Calendar, it will now be celebrated by the whole Roman Catholic Church.
