December 2013 Principally Speaking…. Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community Members, Winter Break is quickly approaching and our staff would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who invests time in our students. We have had a successful first half of the year and our students are making great growth in so many areas of their academics. We recognize that it takes all of us working together to create a learning environment where our children can succeed. We hope that everyone will have a safe, restful and fun winter break. We look forward to seeing everyone return on Wednesday, January 8. Sixth grade would like to thank everyone who saves their aluminum cans and brings them into their student’s classroom.
At the end of each month, the class with the most amount of cans wins a popcorn and soda party.
As well as contributing to taking care of our planet, you are also helping sixth grade with special events like speakers for Outdoor Lab, incentives for doing their school-wide jobs, and other classroom related expenses.
Please continue to save during the break and bring all your cans in when we return in January.
Aluminum Cans for Sixth Grade
Every two years, Jeffco students in grades two through 12 are given a chance to tell the district and Peck Elementary how they feel about issues ranging from safety to academics by taking the Make Your Voice Heard (MYVH) student survey.
MYVH measures student engagement with our schools on a four-point scale by assessing student- staff relationships, connection to school, discipline practices, safety, future aspirations, academic challenge and engagement. We value this information from our students because research connects student engagement with academic achievement, increased graduation rates, better behavior and greater student confidence.
The results from the student survey are used by our school, teachers and the district to create strategies, programs or instructional adjustments to better engage their students both inside and outside of the classroom.
Parents may review a paper copy of the MYVH survey items in our school’s main office or request an electronic copy by contacting Principal John Katsanis. For more information about the MYVH survey or if you do not want your student to take the survey, please contact our school’s main office at 303-982-0590.

Right Referrals
The “Right Referral” is a program designed to recognize students for good behavior. The adult who witnessed the positive behavior completes a “Right Referral” form and turns it into Mr. Katsanis. Once every two weeks, he will visit the classrooms of the students who received a “Right Referral” and recognize them and share why they were referred. Here are the students who were referred this month:

Ram Pride Recognition
For this month we had 786 students awarded a RAM PRIDE ticket. Students receive the tickets each time they are “caught” demonstrating one of the following Positive Behaviors by any member of our staff:
Promote and practice safety
Respect self and others
Imagine success
Dare to care
Engage in learning
Each Friday our Student Council draws 14 (2 per grade level) RamPride tickets and those students are rewarded with a prize from the RAM PRIDE basket. The following students’ names were drawn this month:
