A T R U E S TO R YOn March 17, 2015, Tom Jenkins* was seriously injured in a corrosive
chemicals accident at the refinery where he worked. Coworkers
immediately helped Tom to a nearby cubical safety shower where he
needed assistance under the shower.
Further complicating an already dangerous situation, the limited shower
access not only inhibited the ability of refinery personnel to help Tom
stand up in the shower, but also greatly complicated the emergency
responders’ efforts to administer the urgent care Tom needed.
After the incident, the refinery contacted Alpine Technical Services
(ATS) for a solution, and a new era in safety showers began.
Introducing ShieldSafe.TM
*NOTE: This is a true event. Names and dates have been changed to protect our client and its employees.
Solution:After failing to find a standard solution, refineryengineers collaborated with ATS to create the first extra-large, multiple-entrance safety shower—thus starting ATS’s innovative and proprietary safety shower line.
Problem:At the time of the incident there was not a safety shower cubicle on the market large enough to accommodate an accident victim plus two or three aid responders.

Protect Your EmployeesYour employees are your greatest asset. A safe workforce maintains production,
improves employee trust and morale, and substantially reduces liability to your
plant and management.
An Abundance of Look-Alike Safety ProductsToday, there are dozens of safety manufacturers selling to the refinery industry.
Most of these companies develop products simply to compete with their
competition—creating an abundance of look-alike products that may or may not
satisfy the needs of your company.
We Choose to Think DifferentlyATS works directly with refinery safety officers and engineers to provide safety
solutions that often fall outside the box of typical safety shower product lines.
We’ve solved dozens of unique safety problems for our customers and have
subsequently incorporated these solutions into our ShieldSafe™ product line. The
result is one of the most innovative safety product lines on the market.
Did You Know?Plumbed safety showers are required to be accessible within 10 seconds of an incident, and should be placed every 100 feet within a plant. Shower sites should be in well-lit and conspicuous locations. ANSI Z358.1 (2014)
Problem:A 4000-pound tank-fed shower requires a foundation in order to meet seismic and wind load codes. However, digging a foundation in a refinery can be very expensive and dangerous.
Solution:ATS has created an above-ground, reinforcedfoundation that meets seismic and wind loadrequirements in 90% of worldwide sites.

Innovative Safety Showers That Simply Perform BetterOver the years, requests from our refinery customers have influenced our product line
development. ShieldSafe safety showers are designed, built, and customized to meet
these unique needs and include innovative solutions tailored to refinery use, as well as
many traditional applications.
Assembly-Certified—The New, Higher Standard of SafetyThe state of Washington now requires safety showers to be Assembly-Certified. Due
to the higher standard of safety required to earn this certification, it is becoming
increasingly popular even outside of Washington.
To earn the distinction of “Assembly-Certified,” every component of a safety shower
must be certified by an OSHA-approved testing lab. In addition, the entire unit, as
an assembly, must be certified. ShieldSafe is the first—and still the only—Assembly-
Certified shower available.
Quality You Can Bet Your Life OnBecause ShieldSafe uses only the highest quality materials, you can trust that your
shower will work correctly every time—especially when you need it most. ShieldSafe
parts are highly durable, resulting in lower maintenance costs and longer lasting, more
reliable showers.
Did You Know?Proper treatment requires a minimum of a 15-minute drench shower at the rate of 20 gallons per minute. ANSI Z 358.1 (2014)
Solution:To meet Washington’s new requirements, the refinery contracted with ATS to produce Assembly-Certified showers that are compliant with both OSHA and the strictest state regulations.
Problem:A Washington refinery needed to replace aging showers in order to comply with the state’s new Assembly-Certified safety standard. After an extensive search, the refinery found that no company produced a shower that meets this standard.

State and Federal Compliance Laws and private industry standards are in place to protect employees’ health and safety. Strict adherence to these laws and standards protects both corporations and their managing personnel from liability related to safety showers and eyewashes. ATS is a leader in safety shower compliance and will help instruct your refinery personnel on how to meet state and federal regulations.

Location, Location, Location Many factors should be considered when selecting the best safety shower equipment for your refinery. Climate, potable water and power supply, hazard classification requirements, and number of personnel are just a few factors to consider. ATS offers a full product line of safety showers to meet these needs and effectively protect your employees. We have designed modular safety showers for hard-to-access and low-ceiling areas, as well as above-grade foundations to eliminate the high costs and liabilities of digging at refinery sites.

ShieldSafe’s self-contained, gravity-fed showers provide ANSI and OSHA-compliant protection in remote, low-flow, and no-water environments. Our best-in-class Safety Rig mobile safety shower is available for purchase or rental, with full maintenance services included.
