4.2 ATIS NGN Network service enablers

- Presented in slides 13 to 18 of [TD_09_ATIS_NGN_Framework_overview]

• QoS– TISPAN_NGN R1 focuses on Access QoS– End-to-End QoS will be addressed in

TISPAN_NGN R2 • Presence and Personal profiles

- TISPAN suggested that ATIS examine some of the work currently being done in TISPAN, 3GPP and OMA

4.3 Underlying Network/Support capabilities

• Presented in slides 19-20 of [TD_09_ATIS_NGN_Framework_overview]

• Security- Need to protect access to both network and

subscriber information.- Main issue is authentication and integrity at all

levels. Confidentiality is less important.- There is an additional threat to

telecommunications from terrorist attack. Need for authentication of the originator (or of the access).

4.4 Business model driven requirements

• Presented in slides 22-30 of [TD_09_ATIS_NGN_Framework_overview]

- 4 Business drivers:- New Retail revenue- New Wholesale revenue- Cost reduction for existing services- Regulatory requirements

- 3 Keys for success- Customization through User Profile- Transparent third Party providers- Seamless service delivery

4.6 Framework architecture• Presented in slides 35-47 of

[TD_09_ATIS_NGN_Framework_overview]

- Identifies 4 key "layers"- Network Infrastructure (IP transport functions)- Sessions and Policy control functions- Application and Service capability functions- OAM&P Functions

- Multiple Service Provider environment issues- Multiple Administrative and Technology domains- Interworking between multiple instances of Session,

Policy and Service control- Interworking with legacy signalling/control instances

5. Review of the Workshop"IMS over Fixed Access" results/issues

• Workshop Highlights- Presented in [TD_05_Highlights_from_TISPAN_3GPP]- Presents the highlights of the discussions between TISPAN

and 3GPP relating to the development on Fixed access to 3GPP IMS

- Identifies areas of common work- Defines a mechanism for TISPAN to reference 3GPP IMS

specifications• Discussions

- ATIS supports the goal of a single converged and unique IMS Core applicable to 3G Mobile and Fixed NGN

- ATIS PTSC is looking at re-establishing the relationships with TISPAN to discuss issues incl. IP-IP Connect, Security and H.248

- TISPAN would appreciate being informed of the ATIS timescales

6. TISPAN feedback on ATIS Framework

• There appear, at high level, a full alignment between ATIS NGN Framework and the TISPAN views and approaches:

– Business model, Service enablers, Architecture …– No significant differences are anticipated

concerning Regulatory requirements• ATIS expects to pursue

– On priorities, Release definition and planning– Gap analysis, e.g. on the basis of TISPAN_NGN

Release 1• ETSI TISPAN looking for cooperation

– Will inform ATIS NGN FG of progress on their R1– Send feedback on Release definition and gap

analysis

7. Next steps/Future interactions …• Areas of Common interest between TISPAN /

ATIS- 1) NGN interconnect including SBC (Session Border Control)

functions- 2) Emergency communications including emergency

identification and routing- 3) User identification, number portability, ENUM, and

directory services (including GRX issues)- 4) Security requirements and Access agnostic solutions

(incl. gap analysis). Note – LI requirements are being coordinated thru existing arrangements.

• Future interactions- The 4 areas listed above are to be addressed in NGN Rel-2

scope- ATIS involvement in TISPAN_NGN Rel-1 work is welcome

(incl. potential endorsements)- There is a need for discussions between ATIS & TISPAN

bodies to put in place mechanisms and identify contacts

8. Future Working arrangements• Existing contacts

- TISPAN-ATIS liaison officers are Susan Sabatier (ETSI) and Tim Jeffries (ATIS)

- Contacts to be put in place for each of the 4 areas of joint activities. They will be responsible for coordinating and tracking progress

• Working arrangements- To be arranged by Liaison officers

Note – The 4 areas of Joint activities do not preclude others to occur (e.g. NGN-OSS, Protocol profiles and interoperability)

Note – The exact arrangements will comply with the ETSI and ATIS cooperation agreements.
