European Day of Languages

• Open to pupils with help of their language/home economics/primary teachers

• Create, photograph and review an item on an afternoon tea menu in the language being learned

• Prize! Trip to Cloughjordan House Cookery School for the whole class to experience language, culture and cookery with a Spanish theme

• Closing date was 24 October 2014

• Being judged at present

EDL 2014: Afternoon Tea Competition

• Aim: Encourage excellence and innovation in language teaching and help Europeans learn languages more efficiently

• Created by the Council of Europe and based in Graz, Austria

• Offers a series of thematic workshops open to relevant professionals

• Also offers six-month traineeships for graduates

European Centre for Modern Languages

• Ireland can send one fully funded nominee to each workshop

• Workshop places for 2014 are filled; 2015 schedule will be announced shortly

• Aim: Recognise innovative, effective and reliable language projects

• Award for individuals also offered on occasions

• 2015 priorities: Languages for Social Inclusion, Languages and Sport

• Aim: Support pre-, primary and secondary schools across Europe to work together on projects in any curricular area using Information and Communication Technology

• Professional development opportunities for teachers to connect; exchange ideas and good practice examples; participate in training and workshops

• Projects require at least two schools from two participating countries (one-country projects currently being piloted)

• Easy to administer - no special application involved

• Aim: Improve the quality of teaching, training and youth work across Europe

• Activities: Teaching assignments abroad/Attend training courses/Job shadowing

• Two-day to two-month mobility period, within a 12- to 24-month project period

• Minimum two partners – partner can be selected after application

• Funding for organisational support, individual support, travel, course fees

• Next deadline 04 March

Erasmus+ Key Action 1: Mobility

• Aim: Support the development, transfer and/or implementation of innovative practices

• Collaborative opportunity to help schools work with schools and other organisations to improve education

• 12- to 36-month project duration

• Minimum three partners, named at application stage

• Funding for management, meetings, outputs, multiplier events

• Next deadline 31 March

Erasmus+ Key Action 2: Strategic Partnerships

• Learn from practice on changes and reforms in other countries (applicable to e.g. Junior Cycle reform)

• Motivate staff and learners• Direct access to new ways of teaching and learning• Comparison with international standards (affirmation)• Structured opportunities for cross-sectoral work• Funding support in the wake of national cuts • Etc.!
