College of the Desert Athletics are in full-swing for the fall seasons, as football and
cross country opened with very promising performances over the weekend. Women’s volleyball and women’s soccer highlight this week’s schedule, as they both open their

Women’s soccer suffered their first setback of the season to open last week, as Shadae
Brown scored the lone goal in a 4-1 defeat at Norco.
The Lady Roadrunners bounced back later in the week, as they rallied from a 2-0 defi-cit in the second half on Friday in their match against Glendale. Goals from Karla
Casillas and Monica Monay earned the 2-2 draw.
Women’s soccer travels to El Camino-Compton on Tuesday, before playing their first
home match of the season on Friday, September 11 at 7 p.m. in the football stadium.

Women’s Volleyball
Previous week: 0-2
Women’s volleyball continued its strong
play against top-tier competition in the Mt. SAC Tournament last weekend, losing
two tough matches to Citrus (3-1) and Mt. San Antonio (3-0).
Alyssa Cazares led COD with 16 kills across the two matches, while Angelica
Sayo added 13 of her own. Maygan Zink aided in the attack, as she accumulated
32 assists.
Women’s volleyball returns to the court Wednesday evening for their first home
match of the season. Game time against Cuyamaca is set for 5:30 p.m.
Men’s Soccer
Previous week: 0-2
Men’s soccer fought hard in two defeats last week, nearly scoring multiple times in prolonged periods of attacking play in their 2-0 loss at home to East Los Angeles last Friday.
Jorge Sepulveda was strong in net for COD, making nine saves.
Men’s soccer returns to the field Tuesday for a 4 p.m. home match against Imperial Valley, before traveling to Yavapai (AZ) on Saturday, September 12.

Women’s golf continued its strong play, as they won their first Orange Empire
Conference match by a whopping 20 strokes. Yi Chen Tsai shot the best
round on the afternoon out every team competing, as she produced a score of
77. Fumika Matsumoto followed just behind her with a 78.
