The ATDAand ATDG fan-assistedunit heaters are designed for heat-ing and ventilating workshops,industrial and warehouse premis-es, shops, garages, supermarketsand the like.

The unit is available in twoversions: for hot water (ATDA)and for steam (ATDG).

Both types of unit heater incorpo-rate a corrosion-resistant watercoil consisting of aluminium finsand copper tubes.

The ATDAand ATDG are avail-able in four different sizes (theATDAin five different capacityvariants) for varying airflow andcapacity needs that meet most ofthe conditions under which theunit operates.General specifications:• Casing made of corrosion-

Product DescriptionThe unit heaters are available infour sizes; 33, 44, 55 and 66 for hotwater (ATDA) or in three sizes;33, 44 and 55 for steam (ATDG).The smallest size of ATDA(30) isalso available in a version for lowheating capacity. The unit heaters have a casingmade of sheet steel, painted white,or stainless sheet steel (304). Thecasing can be opened to enablecleaning inside. The top andbottom panels are easy to remove

afterremoving twoscrews.The pipe connections for water orsteam are situated on the side ofthe unit.The coil has high efficiency andconsists of copper tubes withaluminium fins. The motor, fanimpeller and protective grille aredesigned as one compact andcombined unit.The motor is of external rotor typeand is available as standard in thefollowing versions:

Sizes30, 33, 44: 1 x 230 V. Två Two-

speed: medium + highspeed.

Size 55: 1 x 230 V. Single-speed:high speed.

All motors have built-in thermo-static contacts in the motor wind-ings except for the 3-phase, 400 Vmotor in the size 44 units.The size 30, 33 and 44 units havedegree of protection IP 44 whereasthe size 55 and 66 units havedegree of protection IP 54.

The maximum permissible ambi-ent temperature around themotors is 50°C.Other types of motors are availableas other versions.Alarge selection of accessories isavailable.See under Accessories in this cata-logue.

InstallationThe ATDAcan be installed for bothhorizontal and vertical airflow.The ATDG may be installed forhorizontal airflow only.

OperationThe speed switch is designed for use in applicationswhere manually setting the output (speed) is desirable.Switching is carried out between three preset speeds:low – medium – high, as well as switched out. AnATDZ-17-3 valve, ATDZ-18-3 or ATDZ-19-3 room ther-mostat and ATDZ-22-3 timer can be wired to theswitch. Simple and cost-effective control equipment

for the unit heater can be obtained using the switch andone or several accessories shown above. Several unitheaters can be wired to one and the same speed selec-tor, however the total capacity must not exceed 2 Aand9Arespectively. OperationThe automatic unit heater control, ATC, advanced, ATDZ-29regulates the speed of the unit heater motor in three presetsteps in response to ambient temperature readings from thetemperature sensor supplied. The desired temperature (setpoint) is set with the potentiometer set to Automatic unitheater control. If the ambient temperature is warmer than thepreset temperature, the controller reduces the speed step bystep and when no heating is needed, it shuts off the fanmotor. If the ambient temperature is lower than the presettemperature, the controller increases the speed step by stepand the capacity as well.

ATimer (ATDZ-22-3) can be wired to the ATC for loweringthe air temperature at night. Desired “night temperature”can then be set by means of another potentiometer in theAutomatic temperature regulation system.

Automatic temperature regulation can also be controlledin response to a 0-10 V signal. Remote control is available asan accessory (ATDZ-21-3).

Aseparate water valve with thermal actuator (ATDZ-17-3)can be connected to the Automatic temperature regulationsystem. When the desired air temperature has been reachedand the fan has stopped, the valve closes and shuts off waterflow. When the air temperature drops and the fan starts, the valve

opens again. Whenever a power failure occurs, the valve willopen.

Caution! External solenoid valves must not be connectedto the Automatic temperature regulation system because asurge of current is likely to occur when they are switched on.

The Automatic temperature regulation system is tested toestablish its electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) in accor-dance with SS-EN 50081-1 and EMC-immunity in accor-dance with SS-EN 50082-2.For particulars of alternative speeds, see pages 36 and 39.

Speed control



Operation:For the ATDA-30, 33 and 44 only.The manual speed selector (ATDZ-13) is used forswitching between high and medium speed or theshut-off position.

Operation:When heating is needed, the fan is started in responseto signals from the room thermostat (ATDZ-18-3,ATDZ-19). Meanwhile the damper motor (ATDZ-27)actuates the damper to open and the liquid valve(ATDZ-17-4) opens. When heating is no longer neces-sary, the fan stops, the valve and the damper closes.

If the anti-frost protection thermostat (ATDZ-26) regis-ters a recirculated air temperature that is too low, thefan is switched out and the damper motor closes thedamper. The liquid valve opens at the same time. Theconnection device (ATDZ-30) is used for obtaining thecorrect function and makes wiring simpler.Voltage: single-phase, 230 VCurrent: Max. 2 A.

Speed control, advanced

The temperature can be preset behind the cover bymeans of potentiometer A. If the ventilation system isequipped with a timer for an optional temperature, thissetting can be preset by means of potentiometer B. Thecontrol system can be supplemented with remote controlacross a cable (ATDZ-21-3 or a remote infrared unit(ATDZ-36). Then the fan can control the speed in theautomatic setting or three fixed speeds 1,2,3 or stop thefan in the 0 setting.

The control system has provision for control by meansof a 0-10 V signal from a microprocessor substation, or aLAN network control.

An external fault alarm signal input can be wired to thecontrol system.For particulars of alternative speeds, see pages 36 and 39.

Operation:When heating is needed, the liquid valve (ATDZ-17-4)opens and the automatic fan controller, in response tosignals from the temperature sensor, controls the fan toaccelerate or decelerate in three fixed steps to maintainthe preset temperature. When heating is no longer neces-sary, the liquid valve closes and the fan stops.

Whenever the automatic unit heater controller, ATC,registers an abnormally low return water temperature inresponse to signals from the anti-frost protection thermo-stat (ATDZ-26), the damper motor (ADTZ-27) is firstclosed. If the liquid temperature doesn’t rise, thecontroller switches out the fan, opens the liquid valveand at the same time initiates an alarm signal.

Mixing Section with Filter,ATDZ-01-bbConsists of a casing painted white,of the same type as for the unitheater, internally insulated withthermal and fire-resistant insula-tion. The damper is uninsulated.The mixing section has a shortpleated filter of disposable type,which can easily be replaced afteropening the top or bottom inspec-tion panel. The filter material isnon-inflammable polyester to FilterClass G85 in conformity withSwedish VVS AMA98 Standard(EU3 to EUROVENT 4/5).

Asector damper regulates theairflow through the intakes foroutdoor and recirculated air respec-tively. The damper isn’t completelytight fitting. The damper shaftprotrudes out on both sides of themixing section, enabling actuator tobe fitted on either side. Max.permissible torque for dampercontrol is 0.5 Nm for all sizes.

The mixing section is normallymounted with horizontal dampershaft. If there is no risk of thedamper freezing fast, the mixingsection can be mounted with verti-cal damper shaft.

The mixing section has to besecured to the unit by means of thebolts provided. Free fit holes areprovided in the mounting bracketson the inlet side of the unit forsecuring the mixing section to awall. Suspension devices made ofhot-galvanized sheet steel andscrews are provided to be fastenedto the front of the mixing section.

Important! When the mixingsection is combined with automaticfan control in a cold climate, anATDZ-26 anti-frost thermostat andan ATDZ-27 actuator must be used.

Recirculated air sectionwith filter, ATDZ-02-bbConsists of an uninsulated casingpainted white, of the same type asfor the unit heater. Supplied fittedto the unit heater. The recirculatedair section has a short pleated filterof disposable type, which can easilybe replaced after opening theinspection panel on the front. Thefilter material is non-inflammablepolyester to Filter Class G85 inconformity with Swedish VVSAMA98 Standard (EU3 toEUROVENT 4/5).

For connection on the air side,the section is equipped with abranch conforming to circular ductstandard SIS 82 72 06. Fitted withboth filter and connected duct forincreased air circulation, the recir-culated air section utilizes thetemperature gradient in the prem-ises for maximal heating..

Automatic Unit heater Control, advanced,ATC, ATDZ-29Is used for controlling max. nine unit heaters within onezone.

The automatic unit heater controller regulates thevoltage supplied to the motor to regulate the fan speed inthree preset steps in response to ambient temperaturereadings from the temperature sensor supplied. Whenheating is no longer required, the fan motor is switchedoff. Atimer (ATDZ-22-3) can be connected to automaticunit heater control for lowering the air temperature atnight. The automatic unit heater controller can also becontrolled in response to a 0-10 V signal. Remote control(ATDZ-21-3) is available as an accessory. Aseparatewater valve (ATDZ-17-3) with thermal actuator motor,open/closed, can be connected to Automatic unit heatercontroller.

NB! An external solenoid valve must not be connect-ed to the automatic temperature control system.

The Automatic temperature regulation system is test-ed to establish its electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) inaccordance with SS-EN 50081-1 and EMC-immunity inaccordance with SS-EN 50082-2.

Automatic Aerotemper Control advanced, ATC,ATDZ-33Is included in the C-Box installation packageThe unit heater controller (ATDZ-33) automaticallycontrols the fan speed in three steps depending on theheating load and switches out the fan when heating isno longer necessary. The controller also controls the liq-uid valve (ATDZ-17-3 or ATDZ-17-4) between the openand closed positions. The desired temperature can beset by pressing buttons on the top panel, if the con-troller is to control to an alternative temperature acrossa timer (ATDZ-22) that temperature should also be pre-set.

The control system has provision for an anti-frostfunction, i.e. it has an input for an anti-frost thermostat(ATDZ-26). It also controls the damper motor (ATDZ-27) from open to closed position, adjustable for 0 –100% fresh air.

Detailed technical description of the control system:When the ambient air temperature is 0.4° C below theset point setting, the fan starts at the lowest presetspeed. At 0.5° C below the set point, the connectedwater valve opens. At 1.5° C below the preset set point,the fan switches over to the medium speed. At 2.5°Cbelow preset set point the fan changes over to the high-est preset speed. The corresponding 1-10V signalstrengths are: 1.5V-2V-5V-8V.

Remote control via cable (ATDZ-21-3) and remotecontrol via infrared communication (ATDZ-36) areavailable as accessories.

The speed control system can be controlled inresponse to a 0-10 V signal (from a microprocessor sub-station) or via a network connection LAN (AuxiliaryModule ATDZ-37), further communication options areavailable on request. An unlimited number of speedcontrollers can be connected in series via cables withmodular jack. The control system has an output for oneexternal fault alarm signal. An LED indicates when theliquid valve is open.

The preset temperature is shown in a display.The automatic unit heater control, ATC, is suppliedmounted on the unit heater and has degree of protec-tion IP54.

1 Measure the floor surface ofthe premises.The floor surface in the buildingshown above is 8 m x 20 m = 160m2.

2 Estimate the height of the ceil-ing.An average ceiling height of 3 mis estimated.

3 Then estimate the nature of thebuilding and the type of heat-ing used. Select the capacity requiredW/m2 from the chart. Thisbuilding has moderate insula-tion and basic heating in theform of a system with radiatorsthat generate 60 W/m2.

4 Estimate the capacity required.In this case, the capacityrequired will be 160 x 60 = 9,6kW.

5 Estimate the number of unitheaters needed.As a rule of thumb, each unitheater can heat 80 m2 (8 m x 10m), see adjacent illustration. For this case, select two unitheaters and locate them oppo-site one another.

6 Then plot the relevant temper-ature and inlet air temperaturein the table on page 32/33.We intend to use the existingboiler which provides 60–30°Cwater, and will want to quicklyincrease the heat in the workshop after weekends, duringwhich the temperature islowered to about 15°C.

7 The size of unit and the fanspeed can be obtained from the

table on page 33.If two unit heaters are used,each will have to provide acapacity of 4.8 kW.The ATDA-33-1 unit heater bythese temperatures will gener-ate 6.0 kW at 1035 r/min, andthis capacity will be more thanefficient. The motor outputrequired can be read from theMotor Data Table on page 36.

8 Motor.We are selecting a single-phase,230 V motor with manual speedselector. Should boosted orreduced capacity be required,the motor can easily bereswitched.

9 Control equipmentIn this case, we will be control-ling the unit heater by means ofa room thermostat. Should theneed arise to use the unit heatersfor automatically controllingthe temperature in the premises,we can purchase the Automaticunit heater control unit.

10 Select appropriate accessoriesfrom the range of accessories. We intend to mount the unitheater on the wall and thereforerequire a set of mounting brack-ets.
