• Audio typist is recommended– Specialist and a rare to find at University of

Dundee

• Alternative is to use Audio Notetaker• Playing the video

• Transcription+ estimated time to complete is 3-5 times the length of clip– 1 run through to capture audio and images– 2-3 to transcribe– 1 to tidy up and export

*ANT creates a .RTF file which is opened in MS Word, re save the file to .DOCX to reduce the file size. Test file RFT- 86mb, DOCX 3mb

Copyright-issues

• Seek legal advice!! –• If you own the video you can modify or

manipulate the file and make transcription+ files

• Pre- 1st June 2014 required to seek copyright holders permission

• Post 1st June 2014 it is not required to seek permission, subject to….– If a accessible version is commercial available at a

reasonable price– the adapted version can be made available to any

one defined under the Equality Act, as long as it is only made available to those users, you are not allowed to use it for the whole class

Subtitling your own Video

• Early days at UoD• Obtain transcript• Upload video to youTube (private restricted

area) • Set youTube to auto produce

Upload and Sync Captions

• Not tested, Phil @BRITE presented information at a recent conference

• YouTube will allow you to upload transcript and will try to auto sync your transcription to make captions

Converting DVD to filed for youTube upload

• Ensure you are legally allowed• We are trialling

• Search the web for fans who have transcribed the movie. (check for accuracy)

• Sometime you can purchase the script • Camtasia has a relatively easy method for
