The first half of 2017 will focus on the project (de)code landscape. Funded by Young Start it covers regular drop-in sessions, experimentation days, d.i.t. (do it together) projects and the arts & music summer school in July. The workshop programme includes interactive paper prints, digital textiles, sculptures, digital photography, drone filming, sound programming and contemporary dance. It will again all be inspired by the landscape and seascape we are surrounded by. And – according to the core of our concept – we will combine analogue with digital arts and work cross-disciplines.

the project modules can also be booked by:

· schools and Youth groups within Argyll and Bute · groups of self-organised young people · other Art centres or education groups within Argyll and Bute

All project modules for young people are free of charge & we can reimburse travel expenses (for people younger than 25 only).

New to our programme are creative Work Tasters (glass engraving, weaving, e-textile, wallpaper design and architecture) and Plug-In workshops (15+) to boost creative skills, experience and your portfolio!

For adult talc. users we will continue with our multi-sensory Tuesday afternoon drop-in sessions, to create books and calendars – or to work collaboratively with young people on digital art projects (supported by Argyll and Bute Third Sector Grant & Young Start). Young people can realise their projects after school on a Tuesday, too. Please check our website for programme updates: www.talc.org.uk

A grant fron Creative Scotland will allow us to run a Pilot Arts Project with the Tarbert Academy Primary Department. We are also very happy to confirm that the Travelling Gallery will visit us two times a year with their changing, contemporary exhbitions in a bus.

Watch out for the other creative classes organised by the user groups of talc., too!

Inspired? We look forward to seeing you at talc.!

Mary Y. Smith, Chairperson talc.

At talc. we are messy and digital – why not try conductive painting or interactive paper printing? Use traditional painting or printing techniques and add a sensor. With some digital stuff your print can be touched and responds with your music.

Augmented Reality (AR) is a digitally enhanced view of the “real” world. Make your photos, texts, films, sound or animations appear as an expanded view of a printed page of a book – simply use the aurasma (or other) app and an ipad (or your phone).

This module can be combined with the drone filming module.

You will create a little pictogram story to be told in several layers of print with translucent and opaque ink. As a final layer you will screen print elements with conductive ink and connect these to a microcontroller. Once these elements on our prints are touched, they can trigger sounds with the help of a software called soundplant. Your prints will become responsive!

This workshop is all about photography and how to improve your photos with the professional software Adobe Photoshop – but you will also dig out some archival material about the area. The second part of the workshop is about how to design leaflets, posters and booklets in the graphic design software Adobe InDesign to make them ready for print. This is a d.i.t. (do it together) wokshop – you will decide as a group about content and style of the publication.

In this project we will learn about chips, bread boards, pots and caps – although not the ones you might be thinking of! Through play and experimentation we will transform simple electrical circuits into custom musical instruments, controlled by light, sound, tape, coins and more. We will use these instruments, and our observations and recordings of the environment – the shapes, sounds and textures of nature – as inspiration for laser-cut percussion, and for our final group composition.Adam Staff is a freelance producer, programmer, engineer and composer, who is equally likely to be found in a theatre, an art gallery or a recording studio.

Plug-in workshops are for you, if you already identified an interest in becoming an artist, a designer or an architect. These workshops give you the opportunity to add something extra to your portfolio for the art college or University you would like to study with. You will experiment with a selection of new techniques, or challenge and intensify what you already learned. As these workshops are a part of talc.’s project (de)code landscape, we will work along themes of landscape, environment and natural history. Plug-in – and play!

It also features AR+. Simply create a free aurasma account on your smartphone or tablet, go to “Dicscover Auras” and type in: “talctarbert”. Click on “talctarbert’s Public Auras”. Go back to the home screen, press the purple scan button to open the viewfinder. It shows a bouncing scanner that is looking for something to recognise, As soon as it locks in on an active image of the sparks, drifts and rain book (no matter if it is the printed one or the digital version), the scanner will change to a pulsing target shape – the app will then launch the augmented reality experience (films and sounds showing the young people’s artworks and the making).
