Lewis is new pastor at Montwood Baptist A new pastor will assume duties at Montwood Baptist Church, 2254 Boston Road , on Sunday, May 4. The Rev. Vernon T. Lewis and his wife Lovelene come to Roxboro from Altavista, Va. Lewis served three years duty with the Marine Corps during World War II and three years in the reserve afterward. He holds a B.S. degree from West Texas State University and has done further studies at the University of Virginia, University of Richmond and Southern Baptist Seminary Extension. Mrs. Lewis has studied at West Texas State University. Southwest Texas State College and Central Virginia Community College. She is a registered nurse. Lewis has been associational music direct-Or, youth director and was serving as training director prior to his move to Montwood. He was head of the music department of Lynchburg Baptist College for two years. His service to Nelson County, Va. during the time of hurricane Camille in 1969 was carried in a full chapter in Jerry Simpson's book, "Torn Land." He has served in evangelistic efforts in Texas, New Mexico. Tennessee, Pennsylvania, New York, Georgia, Florida, Delaw:ire, Alabama and Virginia . The Lewises have two married daughters living in Staunton. Va., a married so livmg in Lynch Station, Va., an a married son stationed wit the U.S. Army in El Paso, Texas.
