KNOLLWOOD AT WORSHIP
GATHERING FOR WORSHIP
Please silence all electronic devices. Thank you! THE CHIMES
Three chimes are sounded, awakening us to the presence of God, alerting us to the voice of Christ, centering us in the embrace of the Spirit. As we gather, we present ourselves “as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is our spiritual worship.”
THE OPENING SENTENCE ......................................................................................................... Josh Godwin One: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you.
†THE PRELUDE “I Love to Tell the Story” ............................................................................................. arr. Dale Wood
Lauren Winkelman, organ
THE CHORAL INTROIT “Oh, Come, with Body and Mind” ........................................................................... Michael Bedford
The Chapel Choir; Charlotte Brown, Director Patricia Hughes Ball, flute
Oh, come, with body and mind. Oh, come with spirit and voice. Bring the whole person, come, let’s sing and rejoice!
Come, let us sing to the Lord our God. Come, let us worship and pray. Come, let us dance to the Lord our God. Let us give thanks on this day.
Come, give yourself to the Lord our God. Come with your anthems of praise. Come, give your best to the Lord our God. Let us serve God all our days.
It takes the whole person to sing and rejoice!
THE CALL TO WORSHIP ............................................................................................................. Josh Godwin One: Let us come with body and mind. All: Let us come to sing gladly of our faith. One: Let us come to whisper our doubts. All: Let us come to name both our hopes and our fears. One: Let us come to confess our sin. All: Let us come to worship with our whole selves, trusting the God who meets us here
with love. ~Peggy Haymes

CONFESSING OUR NEED FOR FORGIVENESS THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison) ............................................................................... Diane Lipsett
God, you call us to live lives wide with love. We confess that too often we default to living our days pinched with fear. You invite us to live in full relationship but too often we bring You edited versions of ourselves, showing only our best selves. You welcome us into Your transforming grace but we keep coming up with reasons why it cannot be true for us.
Forgive us. Free us. Heal us. ~Peggy Haymes

ABOUT OUR BANNERS “The way” is a familiar biblical theme encompassing such truths as “the way of the Lord” (Isaiah 40:3),
Jesus as “the way” (John 14:6), and “the way” as a description of Christian discipleship (Acts 9:2). The words on the banner point to the movements of faith: Longing for God that impels us forward in the spiritual journey; Learning the way of the Scriptures and the way of Jesus; Loving as our love for God and our neighbors deepens; and Living as we live out of Christian faith and witness in the world.
The colors of the banner emphasize green for “ordinary time,” the period in the church year between Pentecost and Advent. The artist who designed and painted the banners is our own Bambi Setzer.
FOR THE CHILDREN Worship Care is provided for children, infant - kindergarten aged on the first floor of Building B.
Children’s Worship is offered for 1st through 3rd graders. It meets on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays of the month. During the Hymn of Devotion, children meet their leaders in the narthex to walk together to Children’s Worship (B244). After the worship service, parents pick up their children from B244. Volunteers are needed to help chaperone the children during that time. For the 2nd and 4th Sundays children are invited to enjoy the worship service with their families. Children’s activity bulletins and crayons are available in the narthex. TODAY, SEPTEMBER 22, KNOLLWOOD CARES SIGN-UP OPPORTUNITY
After worship sign-up forms and descriptions of each team will be available in the narthex for you to become a part of this valuable ministry. Jones, nationally recognized author and recipient of a MacArthur Genius grant. Ms. Hannah-Jones covers racial injustice for The New York Times Magazine and has spent years chronicling the way official policy has created—and maintains— racial segregation in housing and schools.
