Asynchronous Online Interviews
and Image Elicitation
What is an asynchronous online interview?
Any interview conducted online, where the interviewer and respondent are not co-located in time and space. Most common form is email, though may include forum messaging or similar.
Advantages:• Cheap• Accessible for anyone new
to digital methods• Potential for respondents
to reflect and reply at their leisure.
Disadvantages:• Easy to lose
momentum• Issue of clarification if
something is unclear• In some cases, they
can take a long time if there are delays

What is photo elicitation?
Instagram had 10 million photo uploads on Thanksgiving Day of pictures related to the holiday
Between January and March 2012, Facebook had 300 million photo uploads daily
That’s a lot of photos!
Thanks for listening!
