IN this Ingress Chart for the United States& therefore set for Washington, D.C. wefind Lilith in 28:30 Gemini not afflictinganything: it is her Solstice Point in 1:30Cancer that is important as a threat because itis only 46 minutes from exact conjunction tothe Moon, ruling the 10th House & denotingDENIAL because that is one major keyword. If it were conjunct the 10th CUSP the denialwould most afflict the country by possibleBETRAYAL, but conjunct the RULER of the10th, the representative of the nation, thePresident, we see the threat is against himpersonally, and it will eventuate during theensuing three month period of the ingress.

To support the threat revealed by LilithsSolstice Point conjunct the Presidents rulerMoon we find she is conjunct one malefic,Saturn, and square another, Neptune, besidesbeing besieged or hemmed-in between evilforces Uranus & Saturn, and not able to escapebecause there is no mutual reception (twoplanets in each others Sign, which enablesthem to get out of trouble they get into).

When we find the affliction to the ruler ofthe 10th involves the ruler of the 5th or amalefic in the 5th (injury or death of the 10thHouse person) as the Moon conjunct Saturndoes here, we work the Part of Peril(Ascendant plus the ruler of the 8th and thenminus Saturn) which is (P) 3:39 Leo here. Itsquares the ruler of the 8th in the 8th, Venus, threatening serious danger. . . (12.10.09)

    New York City

MARC Penfield gives a good as-trological history of New YorkCity in his book, Horoscopes ofthe USA and Canada. His primary chart isset for May 16,1626, at 8:52 am EST (pg. 6),which seems to be the day and time at whichPeter Minuit bought the place from the localCanarsie Indians for $24.00 in trinkets. TheIndians were not aware they were sellinganything, as they were not aware they ownedthe place. Like as not they have an entirelydifferent version of events.

Penfields chart has a late degree of Can-cer rising, with the Moon, the chart ruler, debilitated in Capricorn in the 7th. Penfielddoes not give a source for the date or the time,he is famous for inventing charts when it suitshim. In his notes he does a good job of jus-tifying his rectification with events. He usestransits to the Ascendant, Midheaven, andplanets in the chart, but only sometimes both-ers delineating planets by the houses theyoccupy. Sun in Taurus in 11, trine to chartruler Moon in Capricorn in the 7th, I daresaythis amounts to an independent country ruledby a popular majority that is notably female:Independent because, Moon in the 7th, it hasits own way with outsiders. Moon in 7, com-mon people and women are favored, rein-forced by the solar trine from Taurus and 11.

In Horoscopes of US States and Cities,Carolyn R. Dodson gives the Five BoroughsChart, set for midnight (beginning of the day)on January 1, 1898.

This chart has Libra rising with Jupiterin Libra tight on the ascendant. Jupiter willmake the city expansive and throw its influ-ence to the two houses it rules, which are the3rd (Sagittarius), of general activity, and the6th (Pisces), of work, service and health.

Of these two, in the third we find Ura-nus, Saturn, Mars and Venus, all in Sagit-tarius, as well as the Sun, in Capricorn. AsVenus is also the chart ruler, we have an in-tensely 3rd house city. In Mundane Astrol-ogy, we learn the third house has to do withtransit as well as newspapers. This wouldmake New York a transportation and infor-mation capital. Jupiters other house, the 6th,is unoccupied and therefore unimportant.

The third house in the New York chart ispolarized with the opposition to Pluto andNeptune, conjunct in Gemini in the 9th. Asthe third contains three of New Yorks fivepersonal planets (Mercury is in 4 and the

Moon is in 7), the polarity with Pluto/Nep-tune in Gemini in the 9th, means New Yorkwould view foreigners and foreign cultureswith suspicion, as others and as outsiders.

The Moon is late in Aries in the 7th. Asthe Moon represents the common people, wefind New Yorkers to be aggressive, especiallywhen dealing with outsiders, which the 7thhouse in a mundane chart represents. Squareto Mercury, there is much bickering.

BUT then we think, wait a minute.Hasnt Dave told us that midnightwasnt used as a start to anythingbefore there was electricity and radios andthings like that? That noon was the legal startto the day? What if hes right? What if weadded twelve hours to the New York chart?

Well, all right, Ill do that. New York isnow January 1, 1898, at noon. What do wesee?

Hey. Aries rises. Thats an aggressivetown. Ruler Mars in Sagittarius in the 9th:Thats a town full of energetic foreigners.Strange people who brought their strangebeliefs and religions with them. A lot of themrefugees, as Mars is in the very last degree. The last degree means they did not come will-ingly, and all of them, when they came, camewith a dream of one sort or another, asSagittarius is the sign of dreams and the 9this the house of dreams. (Not the 12th.)

New York was, in fact, the destination ofthose huddled masses yearning to breathefree, which is the literal definition of refu-gee. So far as religions, there are only tworeligions in New York, just as the noon charthas only two planets in the 9th: Catholic andJewish. The Jews are obvious, they are ev-erywhere, but as you walk around town youwill walk pass church after church afterchurch and it is only when you stop to lookat them you discover that virtually all of themare Catholic. The Catholics only make them-selves known once a year, on Ash Wednes-day (this year on March 5) when they walkaround on the streets with black smudges ontheir foreheads.

Of the two, New York loves its Jews, asJudaism is symbolized in the New York chartby Venus in Capricorn, the sign of Saturn(as well as Satan), the ruler of Saturday, theJewish day of worship. The Catholics, be-ing, by comparison to the Jews, the new up-start proselytizing religion, get Sagittarius.Along with all the other religions that have

Mars inAquariusSaturn. Gives leanness, with a thinsometimes melancholy face, large ears long

nose, heavy brows, dark or black hair, dark, small & deep set eyes, bad teeth, pale or sallowcomplexion, and a downward look whenwalking. [Abraham Lincoln, anyone? Dave]

Uranus. Adds height & sparseness, givinga wiry, muscular, and rugged appearance. Thefeatures are strongly marked, and the face isoften good-looking, with dark hair & eyes, and a pale complexion.

Neptune. Gives medium height & thinness, sometimes inclined to softness & plumpness. The face is long & thin, nervous looking as ifstrained or startled, often prematurelywrinkled, and with light, soft & silky hair, blueeyes, usually very sleepy or dreamy looking,a clear complexion & a light coloured skin.

By means of the above descriptions weare able to obtain a good general idea of thenatives personal appearance, .but for a moredetailed judgment of his peculiarities &defects the following special rules will befound necessary.

    (a) Stature. Tallness & shortness are verydifficult to judge accurately, and the typicalstature given by the signs is frequentlymodified. The chief factors in determiningthis question are the rising sign, its ruler, theMoon, and the planet in strongest aspect withthe Moon or ruler. In general the nativities ofGemini, Leo, Sagittarius and Aquarius are tall, and those of Taurus, Cancer, Capricorn &Pisces are short, the other signs disposing toan average height, but it is not safe to rely toomuch upon this alone.

HIGH on techniquewhen youbotherbut you are mucho low onunderstanding. Passion is nice (yourfavorite word), but it scares the livingcucarachas out of you to fall in love. You longto fall, desperately, yet beyond a certain pointintimacy bothers you. Then you get involvedwith married folks looking for side things, ortepid, passive, not-too-well-organized lovers. This keeps you nice and safe, and damnedlonesome. More than the other Mars signs, you have trouble getting lovers in the firstplace. You turn off any quality, special peopleby your machine-gun spray technique of look-ing for a mate. You try all the people in theroom, one after the other. Then you wonderwhy no one likes you. Youre bright, and youneed an intelligent mate, but with your bizarretake-it-or-leave it attitude, only idiots botherwith you. There is an answer. Stop looking.Turn to some Good Cause. When you glowwith zeal for making the world a better placeand mean it, youre the biggest turn-on of thelot. Then someone worthy of your lofty goalswill find you. Guaranteed. Dont rush intimacy.

You may have guessed this is an unfortu-nate Mars. You make your own miseries. Youbreak appointments, forget to return items andsneer when anyone asks you to behave prop-erly. Youre a cool rebel, you think, and yourehostile to doing the things people expect ofyou in polite society. You think that stuffscorny. What you dont realize is that you hurtpeople and act like a boor. Pull your socksup! Buy your hostesses some soap!

    Mars inAquarius

Aquarius dogs do anawful lot of barking.Very excitable andjealous if you give anyobvious preference toany other animals in thehouse. If a big dog heis like an overgrown

teddy bear, especially when he wants tobe petted. The smaller dogs in this signtend to be harder to understand as they feelthey should be a bigger dog, so consequentlythey want to eat more than they should.Instead of giving them more, pet them asoften as possible and talk to them.

Once they have marked their territory out, they feel that without their consent no oneshould enter into it. Basically they feelprotective towards all members of the familybecause they feel that youre not smartenough to take care of yourselves.

come down the pike over the centuries. Onecan hardly imagine a town more friendly tothe Jewish faith.

The other ruler of Aries, the Sun, we findsmack on the top of the chart, in Capricornin the 10th. In the 10th, lording it about infull light of day, in Capricorn, a liking forearnest hard work, as well as a tendency tosee local government (Capricorn) as the so-lution to all problems (see the local phonebook: it is). Because it is the Sun, because itis in the 10th, it is universal, it encompasseseverything everywhere. It merely insists thatwe work. New Yorkers are driven.

IN the noon chart, but not the midnightone, we find the 8th house tenanted withUranus and Saturn. The 8th is the houseof Other Peoples Money, as well as financeand investment. Which, locally, is known asWall Street.

Scorpio on the cusp of the 8th, the Streetis devious. Mars ruling from Sagittarius, theyare infinitely clever, inventing many new andinnovative ways to separate rubes from theirmoney. Mars in the last degree of Sagittarius(extreme) and the 9th house (law), many ofthese methods are only marginally legal.

Note also the 8th house investment ruler(Mars) is itself in the 2nd (money) house fromthe 8th house, which is to say that in NewYork, money makes money. You will alsonote that Uranus, Saturn and Mars all beingin Sagittarius, they share a common outlook.

These innovative, Sagittarian money-making methods also apply to the planetsactually in the 8th, being Uranus, the inven-tive, and Saturn, the conservative, which isto say, Saturn remembers and recycles hisold scams, as well as the many opportunistic(Sagittarius) rules and regulations to ensnarethe unwary.

Saturn in Sag opposite Pluto in Gemini,8th to 2nd, when the system goes bust, whichthe opposition says it periodically will, indi-vidual paper fortunes (Mercury and Jupiterrule paper: Bills) can be suddenly wiped out, leaving individuals no choice but to leap totheir doom. There is something about Sat-urn in Sagittarius that has to do with jump-ing or being pushed, but my horary is weak.

Mercury in the 10th, New York is knownas a media town, but, retrograde, it mostlytalks to itself. The rest of the country largelyignores it. If New York wasnt such a bigplace unto itself, it might notice the rest ofthe country largely gets along without it.

This is very different from, say, Paris orLondon. It is frankly impossible to imagineEngland or France (or Germany or Russia)without its leading city, but if New York sud-

denly was not there, not a lot of Americansoutside the North East would notice, frankly.

Mercury rules the 3rd and 6th houses. Inthe third we find Neptune. I have lived inLondon and Paris as well as New York. NewYork is the only town in which I have been

repeatedly asked for directions. You wouldthink New Yorks grid system (avenues runnorth and south, streets east and west) wouldmake it simple to navigate but in fact the veryregularity makes it confusing.

The 6th house is the house of labor.

THE SALESMercury ruling from the 10th, New York hasalways been a union town, and was, evenbefore there were unions, as the whole pointof the Civil War draft riots was to keep NewYorks workers at home. In the Civil War, NewYork was pro-slave, which would not be un-expected, as southern slaves made New Yorkfinanciers rich. But, Mercury still being retro-grade, New Yorks labor strength did not trans-late into national labor leadership, which wassupplied instead by Chicago and Detroit.

ONE of the critical changes in shift-ing the chart from midnight to noonis that the Moon moves from lateAries to early Taurus, and from the 7th, ofothers, to the 1st, of ourselves. The Moonrepresenting the common people, New Yorkhas long been noted for its people, in all theirrather grubby ordinariness.

Moon trine to Venus, its ruler, which wehave already identified as Jewish, the mostnotable group of people in New York are theJews, with the Catholics (ruler Mars, the chartruler overall) as their major competitors.Note the Venus-Mars conjunction, but in dif-ferent signs. Jews and Catholics are as dif-ferent as can be, which New York empha-sizes, but under the skin they really do loveand admire each other, as they know theyreall in the same boat. If these two great reli-gions are ever going to kiss and make up, itwill be in New York. Not Jerusalem or Rome.

The Moon rules Cancer, which here wefind on the 4th house cusp. Which is land.Rex Bills tells me that parks are Sun andLeo and the 5th, but that gardens are Can-cer and the 4th. Parks for the most part arebig, empty, expansive outdoor places wherenothing much goes on.

New Yorks highly developed parks area long way from that. They are really culti-vated gardens, full of specific environments, with carefully selected plants and ornaments. They are 4th house. Which means that in NewYork we see a clear connection between thecommon people (1st) and their parks (4th).

New Yorkers have traditionally lived intheir parks, to which they throng. CentralPark is the best known as well as the mostpopular. When the city is healthy the parksare well-kept, but when the city or its popu-lation ails, the parks suffer immediately, which is the lunar effect.

This is, again, in contrast to London orParis. Paris has numerous open areas but itscitizens have never been free to use them.Parisian parks are half gravel and half grass, with the grass being forbidden. London hastwo giant, adjacent parks (Hyde Park andKensington Gardens) which for the most part

The Encyclopaedia ofPsychological Astrol-ogy, by Charles E.O.Carter. I excerpt thisbook every week on pg.1 of the newsletter, andnot by accident. This isa book I use almost ev-ery day. For those withan interest in astrologyand medicine it is perhaps the best astrologi-cal reference ever written. Carter started withthe fundamentals, which you can find scat-tered through Robson, and then enhancedthem with the results of his own study. It isoutstanding. $18.95

are underdeveloped and underutilized. NewYorks extensive park system exists solelyfor the use of the common people, shown inthe chart by the Moons rulership of the 4thhouse, and the Moon being in the fertile andbeautiful sign of Taurus. Which has madeNew Yorks many parks beautiful.

BROADWAY. Note Leo on the cuspof the 5th, with the Part of Fortunein the house itself. Ruled by the Sunin the MC, Broadway gets its prominencefrom a well-placed ruler. Ruler in Capricorn, drama is a profession that requires muchwork and has a limited appeal. This in con-trast to Los Angeles, where training is weakbut appeal (the movies) is universal. NewYork in fact monopolized early cinema (head-quartered in Astoria) but by the late teenshad lost out to Los Angeles.

And it wasnt just because of LAs cli-mate, since Phoenix, Albuquerque and ElPaso have broadly similar ones. Which onlymatters with early silent film anyway. Bythe time talkies replaced them, virtually allshooting was done on giant indoor soundstages. At that time, much of Queens wasundeveloped farmland.

New Yorks film companies initiallywent, or rather, fled, to Los Angeles, around1910, because it was the end of the railroadline and they were trying to get away fromcreditors. Who eventually caught up any-way, as New York is still Hollywoods finan-cial powerhouse. The reason Warner Broth-ers did not built their studios in New Yorkwas because New Yorks 5th house was, andis, empty. Houses with planets in them count.Houses without planets do not.

You will note the same problem, and thesame result, with New Yorks baseball teams, which are also 5th house. Once upon a timeNew York had Dodgers and Giants. Wheredid they go? California. One to LA itself.New Yorks sports and entertainment are lo-cal. Not national.

The last detail in this noon chart is Jupiterin Libra in the 6th. Jupiter is not well-placedin either Libra or the 6th, but does gives NewYork its outstanding hospitals. The rulershipby Venus in the 9th means many of the bestdoctors are foreign born or trained.

You will want a word about September11, 2001. There is not much that can be saidthat has not been said already. My store wason W. 30th Street in New York at the time.On that day I remained at home in JacksonHeights, as I saw no point in venturing into acity already in a state of disaster. Havingread and studied the event, I am of the opin-ion the three buildings destroyed on that day

were levelled by intense microwave radia-tion from a Star Wars device. I strongly sus-pect the attack has killed the city as a whole. This will become apparent when the newTrade Center opens, and then fails immediately.

FORECASTING. With the properchart we might be able to do some.Pluto is now conjunct New Yorksmidheaven as well as its Sun, which meansthe mayoralty of Bill deBlasio will be ep-ochal. I have already forecast he will be asingle-term mayor.

Later this year Saturn will reach NewYorks 8th house in late Scorpio. Whichmight not affect Wall Street, but may pro-duce public health problems. Note that Sat-urn rules the Sun in this chart and is natallylocated in the 8th itself, such that Plutos si-multaneous transit of the Sun may produceproblems for the mayor personally, as the Sunin a citys chart represents the mayor.

Uranus is a long way from the ascendantat the moment. Checking the ephemeris Ifind its transit over New Yorks ascendantwill be a surprise for the next mayor. As Iunderstand things, Michael Bloomberg willthen be eligible to run for another term. Ithought he liked the job, though he will berather old by then. As with Saturn in the 8th,Uranus on the ascendant, in a chart where itis natally in the 8th, may produce suddenpublic health problems. Sudden, in thiscase, not only because of Uranus, but because

Aries can be abrupt.Transiting Jupiter arrives in New Yorks

5th house in August, which means next yearsBroadway season will have many large pro-ductions. The Jets might do well. If the Yan-kees or Mets are in the playoffs, they shoulddo well. But otherwise, because Jupiter isnot well-placed in the natal, it does not havea profound impact on the city.

The upcoming Martian retrograde will beat the end of Libra, which is the 7th. WhichI regret to say may be attacks and crime. It isimportant to remember that astrological fac-tors begin and end at specific times and thatwhen one crisis is over, one can turn his at-tention to the next. In this case, after Marsgets through its retrograde period, it will con-junct transiting Saturn in August at 17 Scor-pio, in the vicinity of New Yorks 8th house, which might not be good.

PERSONALLY I would rather livein London, but when I had to leave, Iwent immediately to New York. I wasthere for much of the 1980s, and by chancefor 911. I first went to New York not be-cause I knew the town, but because NewYork, stuck out on a limb as it is, was thebest of America. Always has been. Prob-ably always will be.
