ASTM STANDARD B 88 – STANDARD SPECIFICATION FOR SEAMLESS COPPER WATER TUBE SIDE BY SIDE COMPARISON OF STANDARDS ASTM B 88-2002 AND ASTM B 88- 2003 In Section 1.1 Scope, the UNS copper number C12200 was removed. In Section 1.2, a sentence and table were added to specify which types of copper should be used to produce water tubes. Under Section 2.3, ASTM B 557 and E 255 were added as a referenced document and E 55 was removed. In Section 4 Ordering Information, new information was added to state what information must be included when for ordering material under this specification. Also, a new subsection was inserted stating, “The following options are available and shall be specified in the contract or purchase order when required.” In Section 6 Chemical Composition, the material chemical requirements was changed to now reference a new Table 2 that has been added. A new Performance Requirement was added in Section 9.3 called “Microscopical Examination for Susceptibility to Hydrogen Embrittlement”. A new sentence for Microscopical Examination was inserted under Section 14.3 that states, “One specimen shall be examined form each of the sample pieces selected in accordance with 13.1.” A new Test Method was added to Section 15.3 called, “Grain Size and Microscopical Examination”. The word “continuous” was removed from section 19.3.1. This section discusses product identification. A new subsection 19.4 was added regarding marking the UNS Copper Designation on tubing. All other minor changes throughout the standard are only editorial changes.
