Francis Joseph Scarpello, then assistant of Mother Marie Marthe, Provincial of Philippine Assumption Province, was not only moved but was determined to act upon it right away. Assumption San Lorenzo Sisters, alumnae, friends and parents of Assumption interested in the possibility of a project were invited to a Low-cost Housing Complex. The 4l persons who came were those who formed the MARYVILLE URBAN DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION. The following officers and Trustees are: Sr, Francis Joseph Scarpello, R.A., Justice Jose Feria, Mrs. Carmen Montinola Luz, Mrs. Estefania Aldaba Lim, Mr. Placido Mapa, Mr. MichaelJoseph, Architect Alfredo Luz, and Mr. Jose Concepcion Jr. God set a spark in the heart of those who knew how to listen to the signs of the times to re- spond to the needs of fire victims and scavengers of Pasay. Forty-four years ago GOD Himself apportioned land to a people He wanted to be His own. He inspired silent men and women to listen to the cry of the poor. He inspired persons to make a deed of donation of land upon which a common proiect could be undertaken: build homeslor6sdsrhildren. This inspiration reveals GOD as LOVE, the Magnanimous Owner of LAND who distributes LAND as His Gracious Gift and assures HOMES to His marginalized children hoping for fullness of life yet pushed to the edge of society by poverty and weakness. Thirty-two couples chosen to live in Maryvilte Homes were sanctified through the Sacrament of Matrimony. lt was not iust building units for housing families. tt goes beyond to provide a dwelling place for GOD in the heart of couples who have made a covenant with GOD to live a life of oneness with God and with each other in faithful love and to raise their life, their children, their livelihood, the whole educational future of their children on their faith and trust in God who is the Creator and Giver of Life and Love and allthese together with other families within a compound. The thirty-two homes would be called MARWILLE HOMES in honor of Mary, God continues to guard and protect His new creation - the Maryville Urban Development Foundation A DARING RESPONSE TO THE SOCIAL PROBLEM OF THE 6o,5!
