6:45-8:30 Early morning coffee break Exh7:00-8:15 Early Bird Discussions Sessions Coastal “Outreach” LL2: Hanover A&B

is More than Just an 8-letter Word Panelists: Tom McDonald, Jr., CFM, City of

Savannah, GA, ASFPM Coastal Issues Cmte. Co-Chair; Michael Blakely, CFM, Chatham Cnty., GA

Panelists will discuss the many ways that successful coastal outreach can be achieved and provide examples of how it is being done in Region 4. Q&A will be part of this session.

The Elephant in the Room: LL2: Hanover C Floodplain & Flood Insurance in Real Estate Transactions

Panelists: Lisa Jones, ANFI, CFM, Carolina Flood Solutions, LLC; Nate Johnson, Carolina Coastal Board of Realtors

Panelists will present local examples dealing with the many complexities of flood insurance. Get ready to be awe-struck, a little befuddled, and at times pleasantly amused at what the locals must deal with on a day-to-day basis to get properties brought into compliance and properly rated.

Increased Cost of LL2: Hanover E Compliance (ICC) – Ideas for Enhancement

Moderator: Tim Trautman, PE, CFM, Mecklenburg Cnty., NC, ASFPM Mitigation Pod Facilitator

When Congress added ICC coverage to the insurance policy in 1994 and FEMA then increased the limit to $30,000 in 2003, there was hope it could be used to effectively help reduce future risk of flooding for repetitively or substantially damaged buildings. While ICC has been effective at increasing mitigation, it

is not being utilized to its fullest potential. 2004 legislation promoting ICC as a match for HMGP grant recipients has not been widely recognized or promoted. It’s a program ripe for expansion and improvement. In a very lively interactive Early Bird session, we share current challenges, explore ways to improve the ICC process now, and brainstorm ways ICC can be expanded to further quality mitigation. Ideas discussed in this session may lead to a paper from the ASFPM Insurance Committee that could be used as a guide for ICC improvements.

Riverine Erosion LL2: Hanover D Hazard Discussion Paper

Moderators: Rebecca Pfeiffer, CFM, Natural & Beneficial Functions Cmte. Co-Chair; Jon Fuller, PE, D.WRE, CFM, JE Fuller Hydrology & Geomorphology, Inc.

Join the Arid Regions & Natural and Beneficial Functions Committee for this Early Bird session to learn more about the current effort to update the 2010 Arid Regions Erosion Discussion Paper for Riverine Erosion Hazards. While the 2010 paper provided background on the issues surrounding riverine erosion hazards, many things have evolved and changed in how communities, regions, and states are addressing this hazard. The committees are seeking state, county, or local program case studies using approaches to identify and manage riverine erosion hazards across this country to inform the update. Please join us during this session to find out more about the paper, provide feedback, and how you can be involved!
