ACADEMIC AWARDS AND HONORS • Spell Bowl: State Runner-Up at Purdue University in Lafayette. This is the first time in Taft’s history

that a Spell Bowl Team has ever finished in the top two, and the second year in a row that they have

finished in the top three.

• Science Olympiad: Runner-Up at the Purdue University Regional Science Olympiad Competition and

qualified to compete at the state championship in March

• Robotics: Two students qualified for international competition.

• Geography Bee: Daniel Sibinic won the Geography Bee at Taft.

• The violin trio of 8th graders Maria Paviadakis, Makaela Watkins and 7th grader Andrew Neal advances to the ISSMA State competition in Indianapolis on February 24 th.

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS Builder’s Club:

• Homeless Care Kits (in direct partnership with the Key Club at CPHS) happened in the fall (Oct/Nov)

• Buddy Bench being built now for Taft students

Student Council:

• Supplies for GI’s in October. Food, toiletries and other personal items donated directly to a local military unit

• Riley’s Children’s Hospital monetary donation over $1000

NJHS:

• $3198.00 collected for Hurricane Harvey and Irma victims in Aug/Sept

• Trick or Treat for UNICEF in October $1507.00 collected

• 600 pairs of clean white socks donated to the Adam Benjamin, Jr. VA Clinic in CP in November for National Veterans Month

• School Wide Food donation to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry in December

• Taft Scholarship Fundraiser (The Beach Bash) raised over $3500.00 in January

• One day bracelet sale for ‘Today’s Promises’ a small organization that donates to Haiti and Haitian refugees $50

• One day Valentine’s Day lollipop sale for St. Jude’s House in CP $150.00

• St. Baldrick’s Day on 3/16/18. Last year NJHS raised over $5000.00
