CONVENTIONS OF MUSIC VIDEOS

Camera Shots■ Music videos tend to use a range of long shots, close up shots and

mid shots. This is done to create emphasis on the artist, locations or the narrative of the video.

■ Close up shots may also be used on the props used within the video to create meaning to the lyrics and create a better idea about the song or the artist.

Camera Movements

■ The Movement of the camera is used to follow and trace the artist or band. The camera movement can also help follow the narrative if there is on in the video.

■ Camera movements may include pans, tilts , tracking or crane shots.

Editing

■ The editing consists of mainly jump cuts. ■ This is done because it allows a sudden change from one scene to

another.
