Conventions in Paranormal filmsObjects seem to move on their own. Things seem to appear out of nowhere. Traces of a hidden being are left behind. Hints of something sinister are given. Families are left clueless as to what it is. The people cant typically escape it. The beginning seems to be all happy and ending
all bad. Strange sounds are heard everywhere. The families try to seek help.
Story The story will begin in a remote location where no one is around as
much. 3 boys will be in this remote location, house etc. The 3 boys will be
having fun. Objects will start to move around and hints will be given to the 3
boys, which leads them to investigate further. As the 3 boys are investigating, one of the boys seems to get
possessed by some sort of spirit, but no physical changes are seen. The 3 boys group up and the one boy seems to be a bit suspicious
and not normal. Both of the non-possessed boys will see more objects moving about
end up getting hurt by tripping over trying to run away. The Possessed boy will pretend to help him and act concerned only
to give a sinister smile at the end of the scene.
How we are meeting the conventions.
We will have objects moving on their own which is stereotypical in paranormal films, in addition, the location will be remote, meaning that help is not as easily accessible which is common in big paranormal films.
Hints will be given to the boys as to something sinister stalking them or watching them.
Strange sounds will be played throughout the film, this will be used to spook out the boys and make them aware that something is here, which is also stereotypical.
The boy will attempt to run away from the unseen monster and thinks he gets away only to find out he's closer to him then he thinks.
Narrative EnigmasWhy are the objects moving around?Where did this monster come from? Why did it target these boys specifically? Why is it possessing young boys? What happens when someone gets possessed? Will the boys escape from the monster? Will they seek help? Will they die?Where are the strange noises coming from? What is the possessed boy going to do to them?
Targets Variety of camera shots such as high angles to show the
possessed boy is in power and low angles to portray that the non-possessed boys are not in power. Additionally, quick pans will be used in POV, to show that the boys saw something move but they didn’t see exactly.
Slow paced editing will be used to create tension in the opening sequence, this will keep the audience on the edge of their seats, and temporal ellipsis to show them having fun quicker to not bore the audience.
Location will either be in a house or a remote forest where no one is about. This creates tension as the audience knows that they cannot seek help immediately.
