During the period of February to April 1979
Independent Exploration Services Ltd. of Winnipeg/ under
contract with Beth-Canada Mining Company of Toronto,
performed ground-geophysical surveys over 21 contiguous
claims in the joining corners of Balmer-, Byshe-, Ranger-,
and Willans Townships in the Red Lake area of NW-Ontario.
The survey is comprised of:
1. 32.2 km of line cutting on two grids (north, grid: 13.4 k-m)(south grid: 19.8 km)
2. 27.8 km of ground-magnetic survey (north grid:11.2 km 7
460 stations)
(south grid:16.6 km f
680 stations)
The ground-magnetic survey indicated the presence of
numerous bands of iron formation.

1) The ground-magnetic survey proved strong magnetic
activity in both grid areas suggesting the presence
of bands of iron formation.

Introduction!
During the period of February to April 1979 a total
of 33.2 km. of line cutting and 27.8 km. of ground-
magnetic survey was conducted over a group of contiguous
claims located in the joining corners of the Balmer-,
Ranger-, Byshe-, and Willans Townships, in the Red Lake
Mining District of the province of Ontario. These mining
claims were staked to cover electromagnetic anomalies which
had been indicated by an airborne survey flown and released
by the Ministry of Natural Resources of Ontario.
This report is concerned with the results of the
ground geophysical follow-up of these airborne electro
magnetic responses.
Land Status ;
The work discussed in this report was carried out on
mineral dispositions held by Beth-Canada Mining Company of
40 University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario.
The property, referred to as the Gullrock Lake Claims,
is comprised of the mining claims as listed in the following
Table I.

Location and Access;
Centered approximately 1 5 km. east of the town of Red Lake in NW-Ontario, the property consists of 21 contiguous mining claims. Located in the jointing corners
of Balmer-, Ranger-, Byshe-, and Willans Townships, it falls
under the juristiction of the Red Lake Mining Division in the Kenora District of the Province of Ontario.
The claims are accessible either by chartered aircraft from Red Lake, or by boat (or snowmobile) from Gullrock Lake,
(see Fig. 1)
Line Cutting;
During the period of February to April 1979 Independent Exploration Services Ltd. of Winnipeg, under contract with
Beth-Canada Mining Company of Toronto, completed 32.2 km. of line cutting. Over the mineral claims listed in Table l two
reference grids, referred to as north grid and south grid, were established (see maps no. l and 2). The grids are
comprised of 13.4 km. and 19.8 km. respectively of base line, tie lines, and picket lines. The picket lines were
spaced in 100 metre intervals.

Ground-magnetic Survey;
General Statements;
During March lith to 13th, 1979 and April 2nd to 5th,
1979, Independent Exploration Services of Winnipeg completed
27.8 km. of ground-magnetic survey on mineral claims listed
in Table I.
The instrument employed was a 1957 model Jalander
Magnetometer with a sensitivity of jh 10 gamma on scale 1.
The survey was conducted on the north grid and the
south grid. With picket lines spaced in 100 metre intervals,
readings were taken every 25 metres. Out of a total of
1140 stations 460 stations were established on the north
grid while 680 stations are located on the south grid.
Discussion of Survey Results;
North Grid;
The corrected field data were computer plotted and
contoured on attached map no. 1.
The most prominent features characterizing the magnetic
pattern of this area are very strong, bird eye shaped,
positive as well as negative anomalies. They are generally
very narrow and of short strike length. Most of them do
not extend over more than one line. Two anomalies however
were traced out on two and three lines respectively.
-6-
The shorter one centers 25 to 50 metres grid-north of the base line, on the lines 3+00 E and 4+00 E. The longer one
was delineated on the lines 8+00 E to 10+00 E inclusive,
centering on the stations 3+50 N and 3+25 N.
The shape and intensity of this type of magnetic anomaly
in the grid area seems to indicate narrow bands of cherty magnetite iron formation which from drill hole information
are known to occur throughout the general area. Dipping
very steeply, they seem to strike around 100 .
South Grid;
The corrected field data are computer plotted and
contoured on attached map no. 2.
The magnetic pattern divides this area very distinctly into two domains.
a) Very strong anomalies were found in the northern
half of the grid area. They confirm and detail the airborne
magnetic high indicated on the preliminary map no. 1583, published by the Ministry of Natural Resources of Ontario
in the scale of 1: 20 000. The ground survey indicates the presence of numerous bands of iron formation.
b) Apart from a few isolated anomalies, the south part
of the grid area shows very little magnetic activity. Arkosic sediments and or intermediate to felsic volcanic rocks could be responsible for this flat magnetic relief.
