I do hope this finds you and your families well and continuing to cope in these challenging times. - It is now 11 weeks since school closed! We are hoping to be welcoming our Year 10s back to school for some teaching from 16th June. There is more information about this later in the newsletter. I have found this week deeply unsettling as I have watched images, heard experiences and reflected on the lived experience of racism. It has made me angry and to be honest I think it should make us all angry that in 2020 people still experience racism in any form. We put a statement and a photo on social media to show our support for #blacklivesmatter. It has also made me think about the experience of our black students at TWS. Are there things we need to do differently? I do want to say sorry if at any point you have felt that you have experienced racism in the school. We must use these events as a catalyst to ensure that we are a school where equity and social justice are at the heart of all that we do. We need to focus on our Shine value of supporting others and realise it is about being kind to each other, standing up for members of our community who are treated badly and changing our community to ensure everyone is treated with equity. I do want to say thank you for all your support through this challenging time. I have been so impressed with the way that you have all tried to make the best of a difficult situation. We need to make sure we continue to support each other. You are an amazing community who I feel very honoured to lead. I have missed seeing all of you and I am very much hoping that we will be back to some sort of normality next term. It is really important to continue doing your remote learning - we dont want anyone to get behind. Mr Scrimshire has got some good tips in his section of the newsletter. As always iIf you are struggling with anything please do contact us via the admin email [email protected] or phone the school during school hours. We want to support you in any way that we can. Keep shining brightlyby working hard and supporting others. I know lockdown has eased but it is important that we all stick to the guidelines to protect our communities and families from the spread of Covid 19. I pray that you and your families stay well and you know peace and hope at this difficult time. Remote Learning

I hope you are all well and staying safe. In order to support our families, we are intending to work with a company called Studbugs to ena-ble us to communicate effectively with parents. The Studybugs app is free to download and is an easy way to report your child absent from school. If you haven’t already, please get the free Studybugs app, or register on the Studybugs website, and use it to tell us whenever your child’s ill and unable to at-tend school. Get the app or register now (https://studybugs.com/about/parents) We have a number of students across all years attending each day. If you would like your child to come into school, even if just for a short time or just for part of the week, please contact your child’s head of year who will allocate you time and a session.

If you have a new phone number or contact details, please let us know via the school office so we can update our rec-ords. If you have any serious concerns, please contact a member of the safeguarding team at the school or via [email protected].

Staying Safe

Parents! Did you know you can sign up to Seneca and monitor your child’s progress on work that has been set in there? Follow the instructions in the two articles below to do so. Not every subject will be using Seneca at the moment, but many are so it is another tool to help you support your child with their remote learning. https://help.senecalearning.com/en/articles/3661316-how-to-sign-up-to-seneca-as-a-parent

https://help.senecalearning.com/en/articles/3990859-how-to-connect-my-parent-account-to-my-child-s-account

Don’t forget that all work is set through the Google classroom via the school website, and it is good practice to get your child to show you their “To do” list at the start of each school day. If you or your child are having any difficulty with this, please email me at [email protected].

Students! I have sent out a survey to get some feedback from you regarding your Remote Learning experience during school closure. Please be accurate in your responses and we welcome any suggestions to help us improve. Check your emails from me to see the survey - I sent it out on Friday 5th June. Hope you are all safe and well!

Sunflower

Challenge

This week we will be sending out sunflower seeds and instructions to all of next year’s new Year 7s and the current Year 7 and 8 (watch out for your envelope). We want you to plant them, care for them and next term we look forward to seeing the amazing flowers that you have grown. Prizes for the best ones!

Well

Being

We know that this time of extended school closure has affected people differently. We wanted to give all students an opportunity to tell us about their well being so that we can support them further. Please complete the student well being survey Student Well Being Survey - 8th June

Follow us on social media to keep up to date with everything that’s happening.

Every Friday we will be doing ‘shout outs’ for students who are ‘Shining Bright’
